This black-framed hand mirror contains an ever-shifting haze behind its glass. Reflections seen within sometimes whisper truths—or lies.
Properties:
-
Truth in Reflection: Once per long rest, you may ask the mirror a question (as with augury or divination). The mirror responds with a cryptic whisper or a fleeting image. There is a 50% chance the answer is truthful, 25% chance it’s false, and 25% chance it is maddeningly unclear. The DM determines the result.
-
Veilpiercer: While attuned, you can use the mirror as an arcane focus or holy symbol. When holding it, you can cast detect magic or see invisibility once per day without expending a spell slot.
-
Mistbound Memory: When sleeping within the Veilmoor region, the mirror may show dream-visions of places or people related to the Mist. These dreams may grant clues—but each one requires a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or the user gains 1 Fracture Point (if using the Fracture system).
Curse:
-
Split Self: The mirror watches you. After attuning, your reflection occasionally moves on its own. After a long rest, roll a d20:
-
On a 1, a Doppelganger Fragment slips into your world, haunting your steps.
-
On a 20, you may ask an additional question of the mirror without consequence that day.
-
While attuned, you have disadvantage on saving throws against illusion and enchantment spells cast by Mist-related creatures.
Appearance: Oval with a gothic, black-iron frame styled like grasping fingers. The mirror’s surface constantly fogs and clears.
