This pale, beeswax candle is bound with black twine and etched with forgotten names. When lit, the flame burns with a dim, blue-white glow and emits no heat.
Properties:
-
Ghostlight Vigil:
When lit, the candle emits light in a 10-foot radius of dim light and reveals invisible or ethereal creatures within this radius, as if under see invisibility. -
Still the Restless:
Undead within 30 feet of the candle must succeed on a DC 15 Charisma saving throw or be unable to approach within 10 feet of it while it burns. This effect ends if the candle is extinguished. -
Lingering Presence:
Once per long rest, you may light the candle during a short or long rest to ask one question of the dead (as per speak with dead). The candle must burn for the entire rest, and the answer will come in a whisper from the flame or appear in flickering images in the shadows. -
Burn Time:
The candle burns for a total of 1 hour, which may be split across uses. When extinguished, the wax slowly reforms—but regains only 10 minutes of burn time per long rest.
Curse:
-
Whispers in the Wax:
While attuned, you are occasionally haunted by faint, sorrowful whispers—remnants of the forgotten souls tied to the vigil.
After lighting the candle, make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure:-
You gain 1 Fracture Point (if using the Fracture system)
-
Or suffer disadvantage on Wisdom checks for 1 hour as the voices cloud your thoughts
-
-
Drawn to You:
Spirits, both benign and malicious, are drawn to the candle. While you carry it attuned, undead are more likely to detect or target you, at the DM’s discretion.
