I would be very interested in joining. My D&D experience has been limited to a handful of one shots over the last couple years due to schedule conflicts. I have had a Cirlce Of Wildfire Goliath idea for a bit now that I would love to get to explore in a full campaign. This type of setting and adventuring through a published source book has been exactly the kind of thing I’ve been looking to try.
It's your game so your call, but in all the games I play (and run) that won't work. My groups tend to agree, a nap with a magical trinket shouldn't reveal it's details. Identify is a spell, with a cost and IMO should be used.
Now for your situation, a little antique dealer in town would be the best answer. Maybe an old Gnome, retired from adventuring to a quiet little corner of the world. For a small fee (or task) he would identify anything magical the group comes across. That tends to be how I handle things for the group, if nobody has the spell. Someone nearby, with a reasonable reason as for having the ability, is made known to them, so they can use his or her skills.
I actually kind of like the sound of that. Thank you for the suggestion.
Question for you all. I am a first time DM and have a group that doesn’t have anyone with the ability to identify magic items. I’m following the Dragon Of Icespire Peeks so they are located in the mining town of Phandallin which has very few townsfolk so no real magic dealer that could identify for them.
How would you go about handling a situation like this?
Thank you for the clarification. I plan to buy them in the future, but initially I wanted to spend my budget to get some of the other source books to give the players more options in character creation as many of them don’t have any materials themselves.
Hello everyone. Brand new DM here about to start running my first campaign. I plan on using the Dragon of Icespire Peaks campaign and the additional 3 that follow it. I am wondering though since I’m running using an Adventure Campaign how needed is the Dungeon Masters book and the Monster Manual? Additionally are there any other must haves or highly recommended materials to get?
Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online Experience: New, have only played a few one shots at events here and there. But it’s been a fair while since the last time that I played even one of those. Location/Timezone: Omaha, Nebraska (GMT-5) Availability: Available Monday through Friday after 8pm GMT-5 and all day Saturday and Sunday Preferred role: Player Game style: Looking for something that is on going meeting at least once a month, ideally once every two weeks or even once every week.
Hello everyone, I have wanted to try playing an on going game for a while now and decided to try and find a group. I have done an on going campaign with a different system in the past. Limited experience with D&D specifically having only done one shots during local events. Though it’s been a long time since I was able to last do one of those. Really looking forward to hopefully finding a group.

So if I am understanding right if I am following a stand alone adventure book then I don’t absolutely need the DM Guide or the Monster Manuel correct?

Someone had told me that Storm Lords Wrath, Sleeping Dragons Wake, and Divine Contention were continuations from DoISP.
