posted a message on What does the loss of the main "faces' of DnDBeyond mean for the future of the product?

Lots of small things adding up the same way they did when the 4th ed tool stopped getting updates, stopped advertising, stopped sponsorships (which basically has happened.) etc.

if i lose access to all the "Legendary bundle" content i've bought here like i did with the 4th ed tool, i really hope WOTC and anyone else involved realizes we will not trust another Virtual Library toolset again.

posted a message on trying to create a custom subclass, having issues removing Dex from monk unarmoured bonus.

    hey everyone,

i'm trying to create a custom sublcass from the book Journey to Rangarok. the issue i'm having is the monk gets an ability at lvl 3 that allows them to choice to swap their strength in instead of their dex for unarmoured defenses bonus.

i've created the rule to add that, that was easy. the issue i'm having now is creating a rule that removes the dex modifier.

i've added a modifier: Ignore - Unarmored Dex AC Bonus and set the primary stat to dex, and tried removing that

i've added a modifier: Ignore - Unarmored Dex Natural AC Bonus and set the primary stat to dex, and tried removing that

the character i'm applying this to still has both dex and strength being added to his AC. am i missing something here? i can likely add a fixed value to remove 3 points form the caluclated AC... but i'd really like this to be scripted right, so other people can use it.. and i dont have to worry about editing it when i hit lvl 4

    thanks everyone,

    Moltari

posted a message on [Mega Thread] Focused Feedback - Campaign Management

this thread was started over 15 months ago and as of yet we've yet to see any concrete advancement on this "toolset"

this makes me , as someone who DM's on the regular, and has for over 18 years, look somewhere else for a more feature rich DM product. this is disappointing considering the promise of adding these features in the near future. 15 months isn't in the near future considering the money and subscription we pay imho.

i hope this can start actually moving forward, as the current "Implementation" isn't campaign management, no matter how you try to define it.

Staff will check on this one, but it is possible that the player version of Vallaki's map doesn't exist. The DM version doesn't give away anything to the players.

While I mostly agree with you I play with people that will say thing like "we go to number 12, because that's obviously something. " And that's not fun. one of the main reasons i buy them a second time is because of the player maps and integration into the compendium. if there's missing maps, as there are in many of the adventures, it'd be nice if they're noted so i can consider that as part of my purchase.
thanks for taking time to respond, and i do understand if there's some missing. just annoying to find them out of the blue as i'm prepping for a session.

posted a message on Leveling via objectives

i do this to be fair to my players. we all get together to play D&D for relaxation and enjoyment. it's punishing to be the guy who had to miss a season or two because of work/family/other important life stuff. then coming back and having less EXP than everyone else.

to keep it fair and even we keep everyone at the same exp total. (except for the occasional time we give someone like 5 more EXP than everyone else and level them before the rest of the party for fun.)

another thing you could consider is a catch up mechanic. you could have someone be gone for a while then come back, or be new. they could start at a lower level, and you as the DM plan for them to catch up level wise in one or two seasons.

    cheers,

posted a message on Curse of Strahd missing player map

    Hello,

I've meant to post this for a while, but when you look at https://www.dndbeyond.com/compendium/adventures/cos/the-town-of-vallaki#ApproachingtheTown

there's no player map for the Town of Vallaki. it's unfortunate because i've been able to give my players player maps for everything else they've encountered thus far. is this something that's already been brought up and being addressed?

    thanks a bunch,

posted a message on HI res maps... not very high res.

alright - final report - we used the Tser Falls Vastini camp map on wednesday. not only was it higher quality but as noted in other thread we also now have Player view maps. which are also higher quality than the one for deathhouse.

so win win all around, thanks everyone!

I'll be using the next map from strahd tonight. The party is about to meet madam Eva. I'll let you know if this one's better than death house. Thanks!

posted a message on unable to access purchased campaign [chrome] [chromebook]

    hello!

tonight i had a weird loop happen when trying to access curse of strahd via the chrome browser on my chromebook. i restarted the machine and still had the issue. using an incognito tab resolved it.

anyway - when i went to compendium > campaigns > curse of strahd > View it took me to the marketplace page and said "hey you already own this"

    strange

posted a message on HI res maps... not very high res.

    hello!

just wanted to drop some feedback that when you take the death house map and try to put it on a 1inch by 1inch grid (aka use it for its intended purpose) the fact that the provided "hi res" image is only 96 DPI leads to... well incredibly bad image quality.

am i doing something wrong? is there another way for me to find the hi res maps aside form click on them to open the image viewer, then right clicking and going "open image in new tab" for a fresh reload.. then saving to disk?

i had asked on twitter last night if there was hi res maps for use on systems like roll20, and was told "yes they exist!" i was wieghing the option of buying the roll20 version of curse of strahd vs. your version. considering all the other products i picked up yesterday it seemed like a good idea after the promise of usable maps. really hoping we can fix my issue!

    cheers,

posted a message on [Mega Thread] Focused Feedback - Campaign Management
    Quote from daplunk >>

In it's current state you would be better not calling this a campaign manager. Sorry guys but there is so much that I want from a campaign manager and 3x rich text boxes doesn't come close.

Head on over and check out Realm Works (GM Tour Video / screenshots). That... is a Campaign Manager.

If you could combine the functionality of Realm Works with the sexy web ui that you guys are obviously capable of then that would be severely interesting. Right now though this is a synchronised Character Manager for the DM. That alone is something I am incredibly interested in having but my campaign manager is a vital part of my DM Toolset and it's therefore alot more beneficial to use the character manager / combat manager that integrates with the campaign manager than it is to use DnDBeyond alongside Realm Works.

Reading through the release notes it doesn't even sound like you are building a campaign manager. This is a game/session manager.

    • stream integration
    • Encounter building
    • combat tracking

These things are cool but they have very little to do with managing my campaign. Where's the...

    • Ability to upload map
    • Pin the maps and document locations
    • Use fog of war on maps
    • Create, document and manage npcs
    • Create, document and manage locations
    • Create, document and manage groups
    • Create, document and manage events (story, not just encounters)
    • Ability to use flowcharts to map out my story
    • Relationship mapping between NPCs
    • Track session journals
    • Create custom calendars and manage events

Don't get me wrong, I get that it will be possible to document some of these things in the 3x rich text boxes provided. But with alot of information comes the requirements for information management and there's no way that will be efficient or user friendly with your current framework.

I really dislike that you need to host the images somewhere else. If i was going to use this to document my campaign then that would be really annoying. I get why you've done it, just don't like the extra effort that would cause.

^^^^ this guy gets it. session management is awesome, but if you're going to give us campaign management tools... then give us this.

i really have to say, if it's going to be any kind of "campaign manager" you NEED to have an encounter builder. Insider had this and it was my most used feature as a 4th ed DM.

also if you'd let me link to things in notes that'd be awesome - ex: i own curse of strahd on your platform. if i could leave a note like 'characters walked into @Madame Eva's tent and this is where we called it for the night" that'd be great. or "characters started a feud with @character" so i could easily get information on that character without hunting.

a combat tracker for the encounter i generated would be a nice to have - but honestly i'd almost prefer to see time spent on other features. like if i make a custom map i should be able to link it into a campaign page (also, while we're at it - could we please get a "just maps" section for the campaigns we purchase? it'd be incredible handy to be able to navigate just the included maps)

back to maps - if i have a adventure with "player view" maps (i think you're looking into implementing this) please let me share them to people via the campaign management section as well! same with handouts!

if you're hungry for feature lists to make the campaign manager an actual campaign manager... look at realm works for inspiration.

your player tools are on point, but we DM's need a lot more to run a game from just your service. really glad you're collecting feedback and communicating with the community. really happy with what we have currently, can't wait to see what's next.
