Description
The cerberus corgi is one transmuter's answer to the increasing designer pet industry. A lap dog with three short attention spans, cerberus corgis are all the rage with the wealthiest of nobles.
Endearing and Imbecile. Cerberus corgis are three corgi heads on a large corgi body. The weight of carrying three heads increases the corgi's overall strength and keep the dog well adjusted. Each head has its own personality, but all enjoy belly rubs and walks. In order to keep the heads from becoming territorial over food and toys, the cerberus corgi possesses little intelligence and acts as one single entity. This unfortunate condition does mean cerberus corgis are prone to wander into dangerous situations, or bump into walls when they're excited.
Fiercely Loyal. While the cerberus corgi is robbed of much of its intelligence, when it finds someone willing to care for it, the corgi becomes inseparable from its master. The corgi will sleep as close as it can to its master and follow them even into lost mines or dragon's lairs. However most cerberus corgis feels under no obligation to protect their master, running away from or directly to danger. Only when their master is gravely hurt do the three heads act in unrelenting unison.
This seems a little OP for a small non-magical monstrosity that is essentially a three-headed toy dog. A mastiff only does 1d6+1 points of damage for each bite and they're a size Medium.
The cerberus corgi does have a high dpr for its CR (It has an offensive CR of 2 according to the DMG's Monster Statistics by Challenge Rating table). However, its defensive CR is 0 or 1/8 if you're being generous. Either way it averages out to a CR of 1. Should the CR be lower? Should it do less damage?
I think it depends on how a DM would want to use it in a campaign. If I wanted a creature capable of doing 3x 1d6+2 per round, I would increase the size to Medium at least. That would also justify the 30 foot move rate. If I just wanted the corgi as a mascot NPC or a pivotal plot element MacGuffin, I would probably lower the damage to 1d3 to account for the small size. For laughs, I might add an Awestruck ability that costs an action whereby one creature is charmed by the corgi if all three heads manage to tilt slightly to look into their eyes.
I am not overly knowledgeable about dungeons and dragons but I sure do love corgis and this little guy sounds preposterously adorable.
Hey Kasmodeus!
Thank you so much!
