Traits

Innate Spellcasting. The xiezhi’s innate spellcasting ability is Wisdom. It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no components:
At will: Detect Evil and Good, Detect Thoughts, See Invisibility, True Seeing (Self),

Keen Smell. The xiezhi has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.

Pack Tactics. The xiezhi has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the xiezhi's allies is within 5 ft. of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.

Pounce. If the xiezhi moves at least 20 ft. straight toward a creature and then hits it with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the xiezhi can make one bite attack against it as a bonus action.

Running Leap. With a 10-foot running start, the xiezhi can long jump up to 25 ft.

Seeker of Truth. The xiezhi always succeeds Wisdom (Insight) checks it makes to see if a creature is telling the truth.

Inscrutable. The xiezhi is immune to any effect that would sense its emotions or read its thoughts, as well as any Divination spell that it refuses. Wisdom (Insight) checks made to ascertain the xiezhi’s intentions or sincerity have disadvantage.

Fire Eater. Whenever the xiezhi is subjected to fire damage, it takes no damage and instead regains a number of Hit Points equal to the fire damage dealt.

Magic Weapons. The xiezhi’s weapon attacks are magical.

Actions

Horn. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) piercing damage.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d10 + 4) piercing damage plus 4 (1d6) fire damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d6 + 4) slashing damage.

Fire Breath (Recharge 5-6). The xiezhi exhales fire in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, taking 24 (7d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Description

A rare, fearsome creature used by royalty in court proceedings to determine the guilty party. It is impossible to lie to will always attack a creature trying to lie to it or it’s royal masters. The xiezhi only requires fire to sustain itself and eats it regularly.
