The Story Unending (Mythic Trait; Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). When Vivienne is reduced to 0 hit points, she doesn't die or fall unconscious. Instead, her blood takes on a multicolored hue, and her eyes begin to glow with iridescent light. She immediately regains 325 HP and recharges her Empathic Assault action.
Legendary Resistance (5/Day). If Vivienne fails a saving throw, she can choose to succeed instead.
Special Equipment. Vivienne carries a magic dueling saber named Bookmark. In the hands of anyone other than Vivienne, Bookmark is a +1 Rapier.
Vivienne wears the Voidwalker Raiment. In the hands of anyone other than Vivienne, it is a normal robe. While she is wearing it, her Armor Class is equal to 15 + her Intelligence modifier. Additionally, she has a flying speed of 60 ft. while wearing it.
Vivienne also carries her signature tome, Legendarium. It serves as a spellcasting focus for her and grants the following benefits to anyone who attunes to it:
- You gain a +3 bonus to your Spell Save DC and spell attack rolls (included in Vivienne's attacks).
- You may cast death ward and sending a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
- After each long rest, you may choose one spell from any spell list that are of a level you can cast. You may cast that spell once without expending a spell slot.
Lorekeeper's Pathos. When Vivienne attacks with a magic weapon, she can use her Intelligence modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity modifier, for the attack and damage rolls (included in Vivienne's attacks).
Resolve of Ancient Heroes. Vivienne has advantage on Constitution saving throws to maintain concentration.
Spellcasting. Vivienne is a 20th level spellcaster. Her spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 27, +19 to hit with spell attacks). She has the following spells prepared.
Cantrips (at will): fire bolt, prestidigitation, mage hand, mending, shocking grasp, thaumaturgy.
1st Level (8 Slots): disguise self, feather fall, shield
2nd Level (6 Slots): acid arrow, enhance ability, invisibility, mirror image
3rd Level (6 Slots): counterspell, dispel magic, fireball, lightning bolt, slow.
4th Level (6 Slots): dimension door, fire shield, greater invisibility.
5th Level (5 Slots): arcane hand, cone of cold, dream, legend lore, scrying, telekinesis.
6th Level (4 Slots): chain lightning, disintegrate, freezing sphere, globe of invulnerability, mass suggestion
7th Level (3 Slots): forcecage, mirage arcane, plane shift, prismatic spray, teleport.
Multiattack. Vivienne uses Empathic Assault (if it is available). She then uses Spellcasting, makes four Inklash attacks, or attacks twice with Bookmark.
Inklash. Ranged Spell Attack: +19 to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (2d10 + 7) force damage.
Bookmark. Melee Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (1d8 + 7) slashing damage, plus 15 (2d12) psychic damage. If the target is a creature, it is overwhelmed with the ways its story could end, taking 15 (2d12) psychic damage at the start of each of its turns. Immediately after taking this damage on its turn, the target can make a DC 24 Wisdom saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success. Until it succeeds on this save, the afflicted target can't regain hit points and its movement speed is halved.
Empathic Assault (Recharge 5–6). Vivienne takes her emotions and manifests them on the physical plane, unleashing a torrent of magical energy in a 60 ft. cone in front of her and dealing damage of a particular type that she chooses: acid, cold, fire, force, lightning, necrotic, poison, psychic, radiant, or thunder. That creature must make a DC 24 Charisma saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 78 (12d12) damage of the chosen type. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage.
Living Saga. Vivienne reads from Legendarium, recounting a saga of legendary heroism, crushing sorrow, or burning passion. She chooses one of the following effects, as shown on the Living Saga Table. She cannot choose the same effect twice in a row.
Living Saga Table
- Saga of Valerian, Truthful as Morning Light. Until the end of her next turn, Vivienne gains the benefits of detect magic, see invisibility, and true seeing out to a range of 120 ft.
- Saga of Faye, Mercurial as Shifting Night. Vivienne's form becomes blurred, constantly shifting in and out of focus and becoming obscured with shadows. Until the end of her next turn, all attack rolls against her are made with disadvantage.
- Saga of Raven, Free Among the Skies. Vivienne teleports to a location she can see within 120 ft. of her.
- Saga of Isla, Fickle as the Seas. Until the end of her next turn, Vivienne is immune to any effect that would move her against her will. Additionally, she cannot be restrained. If she is currently restrained, that effect ends.
- Saga of Amber, Strong as Carven Stone. Vivienne gains advantage on abilities checks and saving throws made with Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution. Additionally, whenever she hits a creature with an attack, that creature must make a DC 27 Strength Saving throw or be knocked prone.
- Saga of Nakita, Daughter of the Flames. Until the end of Vivienne's next turn, any creature that damages her takes 28 (8d6) fire damage.
- Saga of Xavier, Cold as the Winter Frost. Until the end of Vivienne's next turn, all creatures that start their turn within 30 ft. of her have their movement speed reduced to 0.
- Saga of Rin, Swift as the Raging Storm. Until the end of her next turn, Vivienne's movement speed is increased by 30 ft., her movement does not provoke opportunity attacks, and her attacks deal an extra 11 (2d10) lightning damage.
- Saga of Haldrich, Who Charted Every Vine. Vivienne regains 70 hit points.
- Saga of Nicholas, Who's Resolve Was Like Steel. Until the end of her next turn, Vivienne gains a +5 bonus to her Armor Class.
- Saga of Constance, Who Changed Her Fate. On her next turn, Vivienne can take an additional action. This action can only be used to cast a spell, make an Inklash attack, or attack once with Bookmark.
- Saga of Kyrie, Who Woke All With His Song. Until the end of her next turn, Vivienne adds an extra d6 to all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws.
Spellcasting. When a hostile creature's movement provokes an opportunity attack from Vivienne, she can use her reaction to cast a spell at the creature, rather than making an opportunity attack. The spell must have a casting time of 1 action, must be of 3rd level or lower, and must target only that creature.
Shared Suffering. In response to being hit by an attack, Vivienne lashes out with her mind, dealing 15 (2d12) psychic damage to the attacker. Vivienne then teleports, along with any equipment she is wearing or carrying, up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space she can see.
Vivienne can take 5 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. Vivienne regains spent legendary actions at the start of her turn.
Attack. Vivienne attacks once with Bookmark.
Ink Barrage (Costs 2 Actions). Vivienne makes two Inklash attacks.
Teleport (Costs 3 Actions). Vivienne magically teleports, along with any equipment she is wearing or carrying, up to 120 feet to an unoccupied space she can see.
Recharge (Costs 4 Actions). Vivienne recharges her Empathic Assault ability.
If Vivienne's mythic trait is active, she can use the options below as legendary actions for 1 hour after using Living Nightmare.
Living Saga (Costs 3 Actions). Vivienne uses her Living Saga ability.
Enraged Assault (Costs 4 Actions). Vivienne recharges and uses Empathic Assault, then attacks once with Bookmark and makes two Inklash attacks.
Speaker of Past and Future (Costs 5 Actions). Vivienne reads from Legendarium, recounting a tale of past deeds or one that will occur in times to come. She then chooses a creature she can see within 60 ft. of her. That creature must make a DC 27 Charisma saving throw (a creature can choose to fail this save). On a failure, a creature suffers one of the following effects:
- That creature has advantage on all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws until the end of Vivienne's next turn.
- That creature has disadvantage on all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws until the end of Vivienne's next turn.
Description
Vivienne is the last of a fabled race known as The Faded. In ancient times, the Faded were once humans. When they sided with the first king of humanity in turning against the other 12 Prime Races, they were cursed. Vivienne is the only known member of that dark bloodline that remains.
This statblock represents Vivienne at the height of her power, after accepting her nature and drawing power from the Divine Instruments created by the Primordials.
