Description
Xena magens wield their fists as melee weapons and can project force energy from a distance to attack enemies. With their strikingly humanlike appearance, these constructs often serve as companions or bodyguards, seamlessly blending in among other humanoids.
Despite being a construct, a xena magen is physiologically identical to a female human or wood elf. Xena magens are effective protectors loyal to their masters. They are adept acrobats, easily identified by their adorning leotard. Free from cumbersome armor, a xena magen can move more fluidly.
Armored Husk. The remains of a deceased xena magen are resistant to all damage types. Upon death, she reverts to a hands-behind-her-back pose, rapidly desiccating into a shriveled husk resembling a mummified human cadaver. If the construct's master casts Mending on this husk every day for seven days, the xena magen will be restored to her original form.
Secret Name. The name granted to a xena magen by the construct's creator or master serves as a password of sorts. If revived by someone other than her master, she will attack unless the person who revived her speaks her name. Upon hearing her name, the construct will cease attacking and allow the one who revived her, to whisper to her a new name, and become the xena magen's new master.
Persistent Companions. Xena magens make ideal companions, each instilled with an instinct to protect themselves and their master, following instructions without hesitation. Once their task is complete, the construct returns to her post, ready to receive new orders. If a xena magen's master is deceased, she continues to defend the master's territory from invaders or carry out routines previously instructed. As a construct, she will continue her duties unwaveringly for indefinite periods.
Breathing Mimicry. Xena magens do not require air to live; however, they are designed to simulate breathing for a more realistic appearance. If her breathing is obstructed for an extended period, she may exhibit signs of severe distress or panic, enhancing her lifelike qualities. It's important to note that despite these reactions, xena magens lack actual physical sensations.
Fail-Safe. Xena magens are equipped with a fail-safe mechanism that is subtly foreshadowed by their typical stance with hands behind their back. To neutralize a rogue or enemy xena magen, the fail-safe can be triggered by forcibly restraining her hands behind her back, akin to activating a kill switch. Alternatively, sheathing her head in a hood will subject her to simulated 'asphyxiation'; after 10 minutes, she automatically reverts to her husk form. Although she may exhibit displeasure when subdued, a xena magen does not experience actual pain or emotions. This method allows her to transition into her husk form without sustaining physical damage. In husk form, the construct weighs one-quarter of her normal weight, facilitating easy transportation. If a xena magen is transformed into a husk while having 1 or more hit points, her creator or master can restore her to normal with just one casting of Mending.
