Unholy Strength: Every time any non-undead creature fails the saving throw for Decay the Dirge gains 1 stack of Unholy strength. These stacks increase the damage of the Dirge's punch by (1d6) bludgeoning per stack.The Dirge can have an unlimited number of stacks but they fade after 24 hours. 

Legendary Resistance: The Dirge may choose to succeed on any two saving throws per 24 hours.

Punch. Melee Unarmed Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: (1d10 + 4) Bludgeoning damage

Decay. (Recharge 5/6) A sickly green light fills a 10ft radius sphere centered within 30ft of the Dirge. Every creature in the sphere that isn't an undead must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking (3d10) Necrotic damage on a failed save and has their maximum HP decreased by the same amount until they finish a long rest of have Greater Restoration cast on them. The Dirge heals for half of the damage dealt. For each creature that fails the saving throw, the Dirge gains 1 stack of Unholy strength.

Legendary Actions

The Dirge gets 2 Legendary actions per round of combat

Punch (Costs 1 Actions). The Dirge takes the Punch action.

Decay (Costs 2 Actions). The Dirge casts decay hitting the highest number of enemies possible. Only can be used if Decay has recharged.

Soul Rip (Costs 1 Actions). The Dirge deals (1d6) [necrotic] damage to all creatures within a 30 ft radius. The tombstone is healed for half the amount. Can only be used if the tombstone is active and has taken damage.

Description

The Undying Dirge lays motionless, slumped against its Totem, until any traveler approaches. Adorned in rotting green leather armor and a horned helm, this corpse has the ability to leech the strength from those around it and summon a horde of lesser undead to fight on its behalf.

On initiative count 1 (losing initiative ties), the Dirge takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects:

  • The Dirge Summons 1 Undying Totem (Limit 1) within 30 ft of it. The totem has 80HP, AC15, 0ft of move speed, has a +0 to all saving throws, and is immune to poison, psychic, and necrotic damage. The totem is immune to all status conditions.
  • The Dirge summons 1 Frail Skeleton (Medium Undead, HP:7, AC:12, -1 to all saves, Claw: +6 to hit, 1d6+2 Bludgeoning damage) for each creature within 120ft of the totem that is not undead. Can only be used if there is an active Undying Totem on the field.
