Hey Folks,
We've just released a new update to the game log that lets you choose when you want to share your rolls and when you want to keep them to yourself.
When you open your game log, you'll see a new dropdown box at that top that looks like this.
This box will set your default for all rolls. You will also notice that everywhere else you can roll, you now have the option to choose how you want to send that one roll.
Here's how it looks when you right-click on a rollable box on the character sheet.
And here's what it looks like when you roll a custom roll using the dice toolbar in the bottom.
In any of those menus, choosing...
- Everyone will send the rolls to everyone in your campaign so they all can see the result and share in your epic success.
- Self will keep your rolls private so you can test roll that 100 trying to pick the perfect dice set.
- Dungeon Master will allow your DM to see the roll as well so you can pick pocket your friends without them knowing.
We hope this gives you all new ways to play! Feel free to share your stories oh how you use this new feature below.
PS: This feature will be coming to the Combat Tracker and Campaign area in the morning and will be live on the mobile app in the coming weeks.
Yes! I was waiting for that feature! Thank you!
This is great! Can we get the custom roll option when I'm viewing my campaign page? Sometimes as a DM I want to do a roll, I shouldn't have to go to a player's page or start an encounter to do it. It doesn't make sense that on the campaign page there's a button to view the Game Log but I can't roll dice from the same page.
Awesome addition, and so useful in a variety of capacities!
Yes this also even if you change the default leaving the page reverts the default back to everyone. I’m not sure why it would be the default if it’s going to change every time I leave that’s not a default to me. Please make it consistent when I set it, it makes no sense for it to be any other way really.
You can look at it on your campaign page as well as a character sheet of a character in that game
I just checked one of my characters, and I don't see the Advantage/Disadvantage options. I also don't see the Dungeon Master option. Only Everyone/Self. This is the case for both the Game Log and the custom dice roller.
Good day, I have noticed that the new update does not take into consideration some race attributes. Ex.: on a roll of 1 on d20 for the halfing, it does not automatically reroll, but it use to reroll. Is it something that will be fixed in an update ?
Thanks
This feature seems to assume use of the game log, which for me, TBH, is mainly an unwelcome distraction. Also, as several other users have pointed out, this often turns what should be a simple, one-click die roll into a two-click die roll (roll these dice—YES, ROLL THEM NOW PLEASE). And with Beyond20, it has the added problem that clicking on a die roll formula rolls the dice once, but then also queues up the same roll into the die roller, which you have to click again to clear. As a DM, I find it cumbersome to work around, since I'm often using the die rolling interface to make ad hoc rolls, and the queued rolls mess these up.
Excellent work. This is a great update. Keep 'em coming!
I don't see the DM option either
I don't know whether anyone else has had this problem, but I used to be able to see the "Adv/Flat/Dis" popup with every right click, but when I right click on those buttons now, it looks like I'd right clicked on a random place on the page (it brings up that white menu that reads "Back," "Forward," "Reload," etc.), and I don't have that menu pop up for me. I've tried clearing my cache and hard reloading, but that hasn't worked.
Please make it once you accept it stops asking you! I hate having to rehit it every time I roll
Yes! set it at the start and then change in the log if necessary but not every fricken roll
Hi how is everyone
It would be nice if the default you select actually stayed the default in the future.
Will there be the ability to roll privately to just the GM without seeing the result yourself?
Great feature. Could this be set in the Campaign level, instead of the player(s), so that the DM decides wheter rolls are hidden or not?
I've tried testing this a few times since this announcement, and I was hoping for some clarification on this part. I have the D&D Beyond browser extension so that rolls transfer over to Roll20, but this feature doesn't seem to work. The rolls are still transferring over, but they're still seen by the entire group. In trying it again a few minutes ago, the roll doesn't show up in my character's game log in D&D Beyond either. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi, I’m pretty new to dnd and I’m confused about why the only attack I have listed is the unarmed attack even though I have 2 swords. If someone can reply that be great.
