Combat Tracker ALPHA UPDATE Mar 17, 2020
Additions: As much as we love our fearless leader and our designer's cat Zummo, we have removed Happy Adam and Bob Ross Adam from the Combatant avatar fallback images and replaced them with something more generic and familiar.
Fixes: The old text color for initiatives on friendly and enemy combatants had the appearance of being inactive, so we improved initiative contrast and darkened some color so it is less confusing.
Combat Tracker ALPHA UPDATE Mar 10, 2020
Additions:Hit Point Widget added: We all know that most D&D Players don't particularly care for doing math while they tell their story, so we have implemented a HP adjustment widget to help you add and subtract Hit Points.
Now when you "click" on monster stat block links (tooltips) it will open in a new tab preventing your Combat from loosing all of it's progress.
We have been using the Combat Tracker in our home games for a few weeks, and although it is certainly not in a finished state yet, we experienced enough value that we have decided to go ahead and release it now - even in its unfinished state - to both 1) let subscribers gain some of that value and 2) get feedback as early as possible.
Please keep in mind that this is not a finished product, and we invite subscribers to help us make it the best it can be!
Who can use the Combat Tracker?
All D&D Beyond Subscribers. The Combat Tracker is in full active development right now. We will be allowing early access to NEW Combat Tracker features to our Subscribers first, to prove out concepts and new functionality. We took the same approach with the Alpha version of the Encounter Builder with much success. This delivery method allows us to digest feedback in bite sized chunks and perform testing to figure out the best user experience possible.
What is a Development Alpha?
The Development Alpha of the Combat Tracker allows us to test features and user experience.
-
Functional but expecting a lot of bugs
-
Should be no core functionality bugs
-
Core functionality could change with feedback
-
Functionality could appear or disappear at any time
We will be working on validating bug reports and cleaning up the Combat Tracker. Once these tasks have been completed we will release to Beta, essentially meaning the Combat Tracker tool is complete.

Why does the Character HP have "___ / ?". Is there anyway to see the number to the right?
So I'm noticing that characters from my campaign are entered with a blank box (for the hit points) and a question mark:
Dread Pirate Robert [ ] / ?
I'm assuming that either something is wrong with my setup, or you the current Tracker version does not yet populate this data with default values from the character sheet. If something is wrong with my setup, can somebody point me to the issue?
Thanks!
Pretty sure there's nothing wrong with your set up, me and many others have been getting the same thing.
Thanks!
Initiative breaker - it's my understanding that when 2 characters roll the same initiative, the one with the higher Dex goes first? Just tried it, and the Dex 16 Ranger went before the Dex 18 rouge. Don't mind so much if it doesn't do it automatically, but there's also no option to rearrange? Just a first thought!
It's also not picking up the HP/Max HP for characters, but it is for monsters (nice touch). Would be good if one could reskin a "Mage" to have a particular name so it's easier to tell NPC's apart in the tracker, or just save them somewhere?
Your #1 is my #1 to really make this thing next level!
My vision is similar to yours except I want not only a tab for players to click I'm their character sheet but I want a party view option\link I can open on my tv\second monitor. Usually we use this for just art but to have the whole combat up there(minus the DM only details) that would be amazing for the players to look up there and know in exact details what's going on in their battle!
We use tons of visual aids but to have everything displayed on beyond and live-synced to the combat would be so amazing.

I love the turn and HP tracking thus far. I'm hoping that in further stages the PC characters get linked to their sheets bringing over info on their stats for the DMs, a way to add friendly NPCs.. but as an initial Alpha build this is still shaving a lot of my prep time for running sessions so great job!
Looks like there is no auto-roll feature for player characters. If there was, and it was implemented in the same way as monsters, it would be a nice feature for rolling initiative for players that aren't there and/or NPC's that are in the party ranks. Currently if you manually put in the initiative for a monster you can auto-roll for any other monsters with an initiative equal to zero and it doesn't mess with anything that was manually entered. Because of this, I see no problem implementing the same for the PCs.
Ideally more information would be pulled from the player character sheet including AC and current hit points and perhaps death saves (maybe with an option not to show the latter on a player view for those that like that info hidden). Since Players will track hit point loss on their sheets, there would probably need to be a refresh ability to pull the current info from all character sheets on demand as updates happen. Should be a pull rather than a push IMO.
I don't find that the turn indicator adds any useful information. In any case, I think of a turn as 10 rounds (which might be a little old school) so its confusing to see the turn counter advance for each actor.
I agree with other comments here that there should be a way to mark downed creatures for skipping over in the turn advancement. I suppose there should be two such statuses, one for those down and making death saves and another for the genuinely dead.
Is there a point to being able to enter negative values for current hit points?
Can the PC entries link directly to the corresponding character sheet so they can be called up in a separate tab quickly when needed?
Markers for conditions with tracking, I agree of course.
If there is an undo there should probably be a redo as well.
At the top the word "Initiative" appears along with the number of actors in the initiative order. Again, this number doesn't really add any useful information
The manual entry should allow selection of standard monsters or, failing this, it should be possible to duplicate a monster that is already in the initiative order to facilitate on-the-fly encounter balancing without having to manually add stats for those.
being able to track spell slots and hp on monsters is a must.
HEY! I see my art in here! That Libero fella is a handsome gent ;^)
Is there a way to add PCs? All I seem to be able to do is add multiple Seth Rogens?
You do it through the encounter builder when adding no. of characters you can select a campaign
Very Cool!
If a tie occurs, the DM decides the order among tied DM-controlled creatures, and the players decide the order among their tied characters. The DM can decide the order if the tie is between a monster and a player character. Optionally, the DM can have the tied characters and monsters each roll a d20 to determine the order, highest roll going first.
Adam mentioned that as of right now, that is not working, but it is one thing they are trying to get working.
Loving where this is heading! Also great suggestions thus far. I would also appreciate if I could add new monsters on the fly. I often run encounters where new creatures may added after a few rounds of combat. Currently have to be a manual creature not another orc etc from the MM.
On this subject, I'd like to be able to add creatures under the party's control from the Extras tab, such as pets/familiars directly to initiative order via a similar interface to this.
So things I have noticed
1. Sidekicks are not added only the character, yes I can add them manually but would be nice for the code to detect sidekick (off topic but I would like to have sidekicks in a form where we can give them items like pseudo players, also allow them to level without me having to reenter all the background and names I have given them if there was character creation for the sidekick types that would be the other way of doing this but I guess the same could be said for NPC characters in general)
2. Noticed that when a monster goes to zero hitpoints it doesn't get marked as down also it still gets a turn rather than being skipped.
3. Agree with other comments it would be nice to attach conditions and have it reflected (stunned, slow, poisoned).
4. Have the option to set a surprise round (I know I can do this by just skipping to the players/monsters that get it)
I don't totally agree with the auto damage calculation by default, but if you do that, as I think there is some nice practising of maths skills for young players and older ones as well, it would be nice to have an option and guide that allows us to input the resultant number directly but if you change that number from 15 -> 10 HP it gives you a validation of the Orc just took 5 damage. But if it is auto why not go the whole hog and be able to state damage type for resistances and such forth.
I am a subscriber. Why can I only see the Beta combat tracker?
