One D&D and the 2024 Core Rulebooks
Wizards Presents brought us the biggest news to come to Dungeons & Dragons in nearly a decade. One D&D is the code name for three initiatives shaping the next generation of the tabletop roleplaying game. As part of One D&D, we’re…
- Updating and expanding on the existing rules of the game, culminating in the release of the 2024 core rulebooks
- Improving D&D Beyond, which serves as the digital front door to D&D and is home to your collection of digital books
- Building out the D&D Digital Play Experience, which is in early development but will serve as a virtual play space that’s integrated with D&D Beyond.
More on the 2024 Core Rulebooks
The 2024 core rulebooks will be backwards compatible, allowing you to continue enjoying the adventures and supplements you play with today. Our goal is to evolve the game in a way that reflects what players have told us they love and that makes it as versatile as them.
The 2024 core rulebooks are now in playtesting, with new drops of content dropping roughly every month. With each round of Unearthed Arcana materials, we’ll gather feedback from players like you to help refine the game.
To access playtest materials, you’ll need to unlock them for your D&D Beyond account. Sign in and then unlock playtesting by going to the UA claim page. Once you've unlocked playtesting, you can access the latest Unearthed Arcana materials by going into the UA compendium, found under the "Sources" menu.
For answers to all your burning One D&D questions, check out the FAQ page. And to keep up with the latest news on playtest materials for the 2024 core rulebooks, update your email preferences to permit communications from D&D Beyond.
A Dragonlance Book and Board Game on the Horizon
A war looms ahead, and you’ve answered the call to arms. Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen is D&D’s action-packed return to the world of Krynn. The book will not only offer a brand-new Dragonlance story, it will offer new player options that help you better immerse yourself in this unique setting.
The adventure book will be supplemented by the Dragonlance: Warriors of Krynn board game, made in collaboration with renowned board game designers Stephen Baker and Rob Daviau. The board game takes players and their Dungeon Master into an epic battle experience that coordinates with the written adventure. However, the game isn’t at all required in order to play the D&D adventure.
Preorders for Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen and Dragonlance: Warriors of Krynn have kicked off! These products represent the first time D&D has offered physical and digital bundles. You can read more about that in the product bundling FAQ. Want to learn more about the setting itself? Check out our Dragonlance primer!

Drizzt Is Turning 35
In 2023, we're celebrating 35 years of Drizzt in three big ways!
First, each eBook and audiobook from R.A. Salvatore's Legend of Drizzt series will be released with special 35th anniversary covers. Next, we have the forthcoming visual dictionary The Legend of Drizzt, which will take readers on a voyage across the Forgotten Realms with stunning new artwork depicting the iconic drow and the Companions of the Hall.
Finally, we're launching a family web comic on WEBTOON that follows Drizzt's young daughter, Brie, as she seeks to prove her worth as a hero! That story is written by Purpah—known for Suitor Armor—with guidance from R.A. Salvatore!
D&D Is Headed to Japan

Magic: The Gathering News
Wizards Presents gave us a close look at all of the exciting things coming to the beloved trading card game, from a weekend-long event celebrating Magic's 30th anniversary to new Secret Lair products and sets that will take players into the world of the Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40,000. We also got a preview of Magic's next multiset storyline, which kicks off with Dominaria United and explores the dark machinations of the Phyrexians.

Michael Galvis (@michaelgalvis) is a tabletop content producer for D&D Beyond. He is a longtime Dungeon Master who enjoys horror films and all things fantasy and sci-fi. When he isn’t in the DM’s seat or rolling dice as his anxious halfling sorcerer, he’s playing League of Legends and Magic: The Gathering with his husband. They live together in Los Angeles with their adorable dog, Quentin.
Remember, its pronounced Sigil.
I guess I must be broadcasting my thoughts to the world, because first I decided that Vecna would be the BBEG for my current campaign and then Stranger Things and the Vecna Dossier happen, and due to Vecna being the BBEG, they’ll have to go to Sigil (the old 2E adventure to kill Vecna) and I introduced that already in a one-shot/side-quest, and now Planescape’s on the docket. Wild.
My only thought is LMOP IS A FULL CAMPAIGN NOW THANK YOU SO MUCH WOTC!!!!
Will the new UA be integrated into dndbeyond?
Wait heading to Japan, so we finally see the East in DnD 5e?
Yeah, yeah, Dragonlance-this, Planescape-that, yadda yadda yadda. The real point here is Full Phandelver Campaign!
👍🥰
All this stuff looks awesome, cant wait!
its just playtest material that players can try out and use in their games and groups, not part of official tools at this time, nor built into dnd-beyond
Good, lets get Square Enix to release Final Fantasy Dungeons and Dragons. That would make me shit the bricks.
I think rewarding people with Inspiration for rolling a natural 20 is a terrible idea. Success is it's own reward; and now you're piling more reward on top of that. Why?
Sounds great - but I really wish the D&D Books were actually available in electronic format (PDF), as I ran out of space for physical books over a decade ago. Yeah, I know, the digital copies at dndbeyond are there, but unless you are online, it's difficult to read them, and taking a suitcase of books on a trip is not efficient.
I am disappointed with the lack of information on releases in other countries, especially in Poland, after the WoTC did not renew the license of the Rebel publishing house. Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden has already been translated, and Xanathar's Guide To Everything was released at the last minute.
I can't help but wonder if the One D&D online tabletop or whatever they want to call it, is not just an excuse to make you buy virtual miniatures, virtual castles, etc.
Hey Wizards! (And community) I know that Wizards has said that they were going to listen to the community, so here are some of my personal suggestions for consideration.
1. Include materials in the core rulebooks from the sources we have now. Wizards has said that they want to give characters more options. What if the Artificer was in the PHB? Races from Monsters of the Multiverse in the PHB? Monsters of the Multiverse and the Monster Manual in one? DM tips like the name chart in Xanathar's in the DMG? Of course, Wizards could still release new books with new monsters and new options. This would definitely increase the value of the core rulebooks without increasing the price a ton.
2. Trade ins. A lot of us already have tons of D&D books, (I consider myself a beginner DM and I have 5.) so why would we buy the same books, albeit updated, again? Why not have reduced price trade-ins? Bring the PHB to your local game store and then receive a discounted One D&D PHB with the digital code. This would make getting the new books easier and put less financial unease on young players, or disadvantaged players.
With the app you can download specific books to have offline access to them.
It's a Japanese translation of the Core Books. Like they did the Italian translation years ago.
Yes, provided you are able to use the app at the time. I still prefer official PDF versions (my entire GURPS library is now PDF from Warehouse 23, and I don't have to deal with 50 volumes for going to gaming; I'd like that for D&D as well, without the need of an app, as if I'm traveling someplace, I'm going to have my laptop, which can't run an app.)
Releasing a new set of rule books in summer 2023, a year after they released mordenkainen multiverse. And I’m sure the new rule books are going to include the updated races.
Does that feel cash grabby to anyone else? Why bother getting multiverse when it’s going to be outdated again in a year? They new about this new project when they were writing multiverse.
With Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos, the many universes of Magic: The Gathering principally became optional settings for Dungeons & Dragons. In October that includes our own galaxy in the grim dark future of the 30th and 42nd millenium with The Horus Heresy & Warhammer 40K. I know there isn't time to make any major stuff, but a free Mordekainen Compendium on DnD Beyond with a few futuristic One D&D character options and monsters from the Warhammer 40K setting would be an awesome way to let D&D players participate in the 30th Anniversary celebration of Magic. It would also be a nice addition to the Spelljammer: Adventures in the Astral Sea-box initiating better competition with Paizo's Starfinder and Cubicle7's Wrath & Glory, by welcoming Warhammer 40K players into the D&D community.
A small Mordekainen Compendium targetting Warhammer 40K combined with the well described Warhammer 40K-setting from Games Workshop and the Astral-Sea-setting, would be a great beginning, until Wizards of the Coast or partners provide more content.
