D&D celebrates its 50th anniversary at Gen Con this year! Join us in Indianapolis from August 1-4 for an unforgettable weekend of fun, featuring glimpses into the future!

Early 2024 Player’s Handbook Sales!

Yes, you read that right! We have a limited quantity—hot-off-the-press—of the 2024 Player’s Handbook heading straight to the show. Gen Con attendees will be the first in the world to bring home a 2024 Player’s Handbook! This is so big, we have a whole other article on obtaining an early copy of the book. Please read that for all the details on how to purchase one!

USPS D&D Stamps Debut!

  • Opening Ceremony: Thursday, August 1, 10:00 a.m.
  • Regular Hours: Thursday, August 1 – Saturday, August 3, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Sunday, August 4, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Location: Lucas Oil Stadium, Northwest Concourse

The U.S. Postal Service launches the Dungeons & Dragons stamp collection with a brief First Day of Issue ceremony and special on-site sales at Gen Con! Be among the first to grab the official USPS D&D stamps and you can also score some sweet special swag if you attend the opening ceremony. Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford, and Josh Herman will be there and will sign your items.

D&D Live!

Partner Panel: Multiverses and Cocktails: New Books from Ten Speed Press

Wizards of the Coast is happy to host one of the panels in the 50 Years of D&D series, put on by Gen Con’s Peter Adkison and Jon Peterson, D&D historian. Join them as they talk with Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford about D&D in this momentous year for the game and where it’s going in the near future.

Special Play Event: 2024 D&D Open

  • All weekend long (first sessions of play on Thursday, August 1)
  • 3 sessions of play
  • JW Marriott, Griffin Hall

The competitive D&D event returns! Yolande, the Elf Queen of Celene, calls for your aid to thwart a new evil presence that has taken root near an infamous old site. Level 4 characters are provided, built with the rules from the 2024 Player’s Handbook! 

This is a tournament event that takes place over three sessions—one each on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Unlike D&D tournaments of old, all teams play all three sessions, and are scored on each session. Prizes will be awarded on Sunday for the top teams!

Update: The prizing for the event is now available!

Each member of the top teams receives the prizes listed below. Additional prizes will be awarded to the top teams for each day of the tournament (Thursday, Friday, Saturday). Final scores and winning teams will be announced on Sunday, August 4, at 11:00 a.m. in the JW Marriott, Griffin Hall.

  • Third Place: 2024 Player’s Handbook, Acererak’s Treasure: Crystal Edition Pack (Sirius Dice)
  • Second Place: All third place prizes plus D&D Icons of the Realms: Bone Roc (WizKids Miniature)
  • First Place: All second and third place prizes plus Planescape DM’s Vault (Beadle and Grimm’s), 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide (shipped when available), 2024 Monster Manual (shipped when available), and a special medal commemorating your victory!

D&D Play with Baldman Games

  • All weekend long (Thursday – Sunday)

In addition to the D&D Open, many other D&D events will be offered all weekend long from our organizer partner! Most games are 2-4 hours and include Adventurers League games. Adventures for all skill levels are available, including a free learn-to-play demo for new adventurers!
