This article was written by Bill Rehor with Beadle & Grimm’s—longtime D&D collaborators known for their immersive premium editions of popular D&D releases, and for their TV show Faster, Purple Worm, Kill! Kill! on the D&D Adventures network.
Beadle & Grimm’s have brought their first full-length book to D&D Beyond: Faster, Purple Worm! Everybody Dies, Volume 1. Inside you’ll find a wide-ranging collection of adventures designed to take your players on a magical, exciting journey through the world of Dungeons & Dragons … and then kill them.
Over the course of these 15 deadly adventures, your players may steal from a Waterdeep crime lord, attend a lavish costume party, perform an audacious heist, or investigate a haunted cemetery. Each time their efforts will end in certain death, but the songs and stories of their ill-fated bravery will last forever.
Intrigued?
Read on to see how Everybody Dies can change up your game night!
This adventure book features a unique collection of one-shots. Each story pits a heroic band of level 1 characters against an epic monster from D&D lore, challenging these doomed souls to find small victories against a comically overpowered foe. It includes
15 adventures for intrepid level 1 characters on unpredictable journeys to face an epic D&D monster—and meet their heroic demise.
Iconic locations to die in again and again: travel to Barovia to face down Strahd, or delve into the underground lair of the crime lord Xanathar.
11 quickplay maps help to prep your session in seconds using the Maps VTT.
25 dangerous monsters (9 all-new monsters plus 16 variants) to terrify your players.
17 new magic items to reward boldness and death-defying strategies.
8 immersive handouts to send your party on their character's last adventure.
Everybody Dies, Volume 1 contains 15 stand-alone adventures based on the D&D Adventures TV show, Faster, Purple Worm! Kill! Kill! and use the latest Dungeons & Dragons rules. All are designed for 4-6 level 1 characters, all can be played in a single session, and all of them are utterly lethal.
These short, simple adventures are perfect for a change of pace from your usual campaign, a time where your entire gaming group isn’t available, or a short session on a work night. Because these quests are not survivable, you don’t have to worry about planning or scheduling future sessions, and the prep time for DMs and players alike is very minimal.
What is a “Faster, Purple Worm” Adventure?
Aside from the Total Party Kill at the end, it’s not that different from any other level 1 adventure, really. It might be a bit lighter in tone than your normal game. At the end, your characters will be mourned and celebrated. But it still contains everything you love most about gathering to play Dungeons & Dragons.
These adventures definitely have more built-in opportunities for improvisation and randomness than a typical experience. The “Keeping it Spontaneous” sidebars throughout the book provide DMs with an optional tool to encourage players to add their own imagination to the story. They might be asked to spontaneously tell the tale of how they were recruited into the Zhentarim, or even perform an unscripted, rousing fight song about toads. Use these prompts as little or as much as you like to keep your players active and engaged in every little moment.
“One character died by disintegration, which was great. This character also bought a Yawning Portal souvenir glass, and one of the other characters picked up the glass and filled it with the player’s ashes. It was awesome.”

Everybody Dies was created by longtime D&D devotees and is meant as a love letter to the game. Running a series of short adventures provides you with the rare opportunity to experience a variety of the most famous settings, and feared monsters, invented by the Dungeons & Dragons team over the years.
Oh, The Places You’ll Go
Visit the extraplanar city of Sigil, board a Spelljammer ship, or take a pleasure cruise high above the world of Eberron. You can even stop for a quick glass of wine in Count Strahd’s castle! Everybody Dies is a whirlwind tour of places you love, and a quick and easy way to try out a world you’ve always been curious about.
We’ve also provided you with lots of flexibility. The introduction to each adventure offers ideas for adapting it to a variety of D&D settings, and most can be placed almost anywhere. Refashion them to fit any world you choose, including those of your own creation.
Epic Battles Await
But who will be lurking in these fantastical locations, you ask? Even long-time players and DMs rarely get the opportunity to act out a battle against the truly legendary monsters of D&D lore—how many of us ever reach a high enough level to face off with Demogorgon? That’s not an issue in an Everybody Dies adventure. Pit your level 1 party up against the best of the best, from Strahd von Zarovich to the Lord of Blades. Get crushed by a Storm Giant one night, then experience Xanathar Disintegration Ray the next!
“My players loved the Beholder, Mr. Bargomosh—being able to befriend a horrible aberration was a thrill.”

We understand that a Total Party Kill may not be for every DM or group of players. For those who prefer a challenging but survivable session, each story concludes with a suggestion for adjusting the lethality down to standard levels, allowing you to use it as part of a more traditional D&D campaign.
We provide one such idea for each adventure, but feel free to come up with your own adjustments that best fit you and your players.
“One character managed to run away using Sanctuary, Dodge, Disengage, andDashto get out as quickly as possible. I had Princess Rusa leap out of the top window to catch up, but after the character got past the bridge, I felt it was a bit excessive to keep going after him. Instead, I worked into the epilogue that, in addition to the new missing posters for the princess, there was a new wanted poster for the character that got away, and the party agreed that if he tried to spread the word about a princess changing into a demon tiger, people would just consider him crazy.”

Experience a TPK Today!
As Beadle & Grimm’s co-founder Matthew Lillard often says, “The best way to spend a life is around a table with friends,” and Everybody Dies, Vol. 1 will give you 15 hilarious reasons to gather your gaming group around the table—virtually or in-person—to laugh, improvise, and battle your way through a memorable and totally unique evening of D&D.
Together, you may just find the meaning of a (short) life well-lived.
Love Matthew Lillard and excited for this but can we get a u.a or a announcement of books coming out this year . Hell even a announcement of when we will hear a announcement would be a fantastic thing
This is a fantastic show on the D&D channel, and this book has all the magic and is just a great set of one shots as well. These guys love D&D so much, and it shows in the book and in their TV show (which needs more seasons!!!!!).
Here's a thought. What if the PCs remain the same throughout the entirety of the adventures. You can pick up a campaign, leveling the PCs up appropriately after the final adventure, and having them have been in some type of time loop (think Groundhog Day) from the real BBEG. Now that they are free, they can seek revenge.
I must say I am disappointed that this was said to be a 2024 update but aside from formatting updates and the removal of "nonmagical" when it comes to resistance, it isn't. None of these bosses have been updated to fit into how 2024 handles CR or monster design. This isn't 2024 content, it's 2014 in a trenchcoat.

That isdisappointing. Thanks so much for sharing that info.
There's no challenge in killing a level 1 party off. Let's have a book designed to kill off a party at the end of the campaign. Say level 16-20 without combat taking four hours for a single encounter. Draining their resources so the final boss really sticks it to them. Then you'll really have something.
My biggest gripe of 2024 is why take "non-magical" resistance off of monsters, but not PCs? The lack of parity makes things unnecessarily difficult. Plus, the only replacement on monsters seems to be extra HP, if they even get that...
Now I have to figure out which brutes to give a Rage to, which sneaks/snipers to give an Uncanny Dodge, etc.
Very interesting to see the adventures itself to be huge fan favorite despite I remember the show itself sucked doodoo (or the channel itself as whole? idk). Looks like the audacity to put "Vol. 1" on the title is paying off and that's cool.

They... They did? No 2024 content references nonmagical damage, PC or Monster. Features that used to grant a PC the ability to treat their magic as magical now lets them change the damage type instead, Heavy Armor Master is now against all B/P/S damage instead of just magical, and spells like Stone Skin work against all B/P/S not just nonmagical.
You seem to think that Rage and Uncanny Dodge could be overcome with magical damage in 2014. They could not. Nor can they in 2024.
Yes, but monsters that used to have resistance to B/P/S (such as werewolves) no longer do AND they didn't gain resistance to "non-magical" damage and are therefore weaker.

It's a feature, not a bug?

Might I humbly suggest a B&G style digital DM screen...😉
