2026 Roadmap: A Year of Adventure

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within

In Spring, the Mists roll in as we kick off the Season of Horror—which crescendos with our next upcoming product, Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. This book returns you to some of D&D’s most iconic and chilling nightmares, the Domains of Dread.
We can’t wait for you to get your hands on it and unleash dark legends at your table.
We'll be sharing more about this new book soon, but here are the key dates to mark now:
- Pre-order: April 13
- Master Tier: June 2
- Hero Tier: June 9
- Wide Release: June 16
Season of Magic: Arcana Unleashed & More

After the last scream of the Season of Horror echoes out into the void, we turn the page to the Season of Magic—a celebration of spellcraft, wonder, and ceaseless drive for power.
To kick off the magic, you’ll be able to add new tools to your table in August with D&D Reference Cards, built to keep key information close at hand when the action heats up.
Then, arriving as a source of inspiration for all lovers of magic and the arcane, Arcana Unleashed and the adventure book Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall will debut in September.
D&D Beyond: New Ways to Get Playing Faster

As shared recently in our Development Roadmap, D&D Beyond is leveling up with updates that reduce friction and help groups jump into the fun. From smoother onboarding for players to better ways to find events—and more improvements aimed at helping DMs prep with confidence—2026 will help you play your way online and at the table.
If you'd like to dive into more detail on D&D Beyond's feature releases and stay up-to-date with what's recently come out (like Shared Dice in the Maps VTT), keep an eye on our constantly evolving Roadmap Hub.

Posted Mar 5, 2026I'm pretty excited to see that they are bringing Ravenloft more into a goth style again. Not the "Ravenloft Disney in the Mist" version that we got from Curse of Strahd. Crossing my fingers that we'll see new versions of the old modules from the good old 2nd ed D&D setting. There was some epic adventures in the 2nd edition Ravenloft series. Fingers crossed, and prepared to be disappointed. :)

Posted Mar 5, 2026Yes, this! I have the same question. Your lack of improvements to support your community is greatly concerning; especially since I subscribe. I pay to be ignored and use a subpar toolset. I truly believe in your products potential. Please make it what it should be.

Posted Mar 5, 2026My current long-form campaign is returning a warlock (Efretti patron) to Calimshan, so all the Calimshan desert goodness - including tying in the Calimenon Crystal. It is a roadie from Princes of the Apocalypse local all the way down the coast. This is where I discover how very little of the coast - let alone Faerun - is covered by official DND content. It is mostly in a tiny northern corner of a vast and varied landscape.
I love that we now have Calimshan mentioned briefly in the Heroes books, but as you say burnout with the rinsing and repeating of lore for areas already covered. Where’s the Amn adventure book, or the Tethyr one? But, I agree, great content on DM’s Guild - go you creatives! Shall I include a resurgence of the Sky Fall battles - everything is connected!? ;P

Posted Mar 5, 2026Something like the 6 module story arc Feast of Goblyns to From the Shadows 5.5e update would be pretty cool (has it really been 30+ years since the Grand Conjunction!)
Know they like to highlight the new art in recent/upcoming books but if they can flavour the layout of the latest Eberron book, wouldn't mind seeing/hoping for a return of that old Ravenloft book style as well.

Posted Mar 5, 2026Yeah, my guess would be that if they're going to announce Dark Sun, it's going to be held off to be a big reveal.

Posted Mar 5, 2026Depends on what kind of game your table likes to play. Personally, I'm not as into the style that Daggerheart espouses but if your table is, then that's what your table should play.

Posted Mar 5, 2026I dunno, Dark Sun has more then just uncomfortable themes going against it. It's gameplay is all about scarcity and survival in a brutal wasteland, which I don't think 5e is really equipped to handle. A lot of other tables already only pay lip service to spell components and rations on the road. I just don't think a whole bunch of people are up for dealing with water, weapons that break every few hits, constant streams of monsters that stretch those weapons well past the limit, and magic that salts the earth and gets the caster lynched in public. They would have to build a whole framework for a "hardcore mode" to 5e that works well before even trying to tackle Dark Sun, and If you think that's secondary to getting the setting published, then look back at Spelljammer.

Posted Mar 5, 2026If we think of recent books, and account for larger initial season because they were reorganizing under new leadership, we got last season:
(FotA was technically outside the season)
And we're getting:
And then a season of:
And then a Season of Champions with undefined contents, before the end of the year.
While they took a bit to get rolling, they definitely look like they're attempting to include adventures in the sequence. They're just not going in for the 250 page hardcover Campaign books.
It's a completely contradictory position in the community that's the problem. People complaining that there's no new content, and people complaining that they're releasing too much too fast. People complaining that there's no campaign books just anthologies, and people complaining previously that there were no anthologies just campaign books.
Personally, I enjoy the new content but I don't need the new content. The core player base is the one who is accepting new content, writing their own adventures and homebrew, and barely bothering to log onto DDB Forums to complain. There is already so much content that they could stop producing and most people would continue to never be able to play it all.
These books exist to make the company profit, not to fill a hole in the game, because really, there isn't many actual holes, and third party authors have definitely covered those aspects. If anything, incorporating more content like Abomination Vaults campaign books would be a better way to add campaigns for players, because it frees up the WOTC team to work on player options and monster manuals and stuff that requires balancing instead of storytelling that many others can do quite well.
The biggest thing that I personally think they need to focus on (and they're listening) is Homebrew and fixing the DDB Site, but that's a completely different group of software developers, not the game content producers.

Posted Mar 6, 2026Thanks for taking the time to reply, always great to interact/get alternative perspectives from other D&D fans!
I suppose I was trying to say something like, in the past when you used to go to the store and see shelves upon shelves of 32/64 page modules, you felt like the game was doing well and an abundance of new wonders were waiting to be discovered just around the next corner (or the next moving this module aside to see what's behind it).
Since previous post, noticed that Nerd Immersion has released some conversations with D&D/DDB peoples, going to set aside some time to watch them and learn a bit more.
Whilst I don't want to sound like I'm a complete and utterly quill and parchment old fossil, can I ask how you see 'Homebrew' here - or maybe recommend an article if it's already been discussed.
Again, thank you.

Posted Mar 6, 2026Forgot to quote the comment…my original reply: think Volo’s and another book [Tome of Foes?] were replaced by Mordenkainen’s Monsters of the Multiverse. Not 100% sure, but that’s my recollection.

Posted Mar 6, 2026not excited to go to ravenloft again, for the 3rd time in fifth edition, but arcana unleash looks fascinating. I would love to see them take risks and visit some fan favorite older settings for a full campaign like Dark Sun, or the hollow world of mystara.

Posted Mar 6, 2026I really hope the unanounced book is a Dark sun campaign! or at least dark sun related! I really feel like Dark sun is exploring something the other settings arent quite able to achieve! I love the other stuff but damn are we due for some Dark sun content!

Posted Mar 6, 2026It says "gameplay expansion" so I'm assuming it's spells, subclasses and the like. Maybe a bunch of old stuff updated for 5.5E. Deadfall says "Adventure Expansion" so that might be what you're looking for.

Posted Mar 6, 2026Thing is, they are releasing the 32/64 page modules. That's what things like Netheril's Fall are. The campaign books are 200-300 pages long and far more work, which takes away from making a half dozen smaller modules. There were never that scale of book back in the day, unless it was the occasional box set like Rod of Seven Parts. So in effect, they are going back to that style with more smaller books. The player options books are more like the Complete Book of Elves, or the Complete Fighter's Handbook from 2nd Ed.
Regarding homebrew, there's an entire section of the site devoted to settting up custom Monsters for the VTT, custom subclasses, backgrounds, and magic items for the players etc. So that you can build your own and use them in the Character Builder. There's long been a call for "Make my own classes" that can be used in the Character Builder, and the Dev Roadmap seems to be leading that way.
Basically, the digital version of making your own stuff, but up till now it's only been partially supported because of the way the site was built.
