Just announced live on-stream at D&D Live 2020, Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden is this year’s new D&D adventure. Join us in watching D&D Live 2020 and scouring the the footage for new information about this upcoming new adventure. Or, read the article below as it's updated throughout the weekend with new information about Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden.
This horror-fantasy adventure takes heroes to the frigid wastes of Icewind Dale as a divine evil descends upon land, threatening the Forgotten Realms with eternal night. Your characters begin their adventures in the isolated settlement of Ten-Towns, an aptly named group of ten nearby towns that have banded together in an enduring alliance to survive the dangers of Icewind Dale.
Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden will be released physically as a 320-page hardcover adventure, and digitally on D&D Beyond with full digital toolset integration of the new monsters, magic items, and more found within. You can preorder it now on the D&D Beyond Marketplace to get special rewards. This story will feature icy environmental danger, modular adventures that can be played separately or together as an overarching story, and over 50 new creature stat blocks, including multiple for Auril the Frostmaiden, a lesser god whose schemes will place the characters—and all of Icewind Dale—in mortal peril.
Learn all the secrets of Icewind Dale as D&D Beyond's Todd Kenreck speaks with lead designer Chris Perkins about the mysterious dangers you might encounter in this dark and magical land. This is just the tip of the iceberg, though! See all six of Todd's interviews in our full interview playlist.
As you explore beyond Ten-Towns, a tale of dark fantasy terror unfolds. Eternal night blankets Icewind Dale, and the amoral and power-hungry Arcane Brotherhood seeks to exploit this chaos to unearth and claim a dark and twisted power deep beneath this frozen land.
This is not the first time we’ve seen the Arcane Brotherhood at work in fifth edition D&D. Adventurers who have been with this edition since the beginning may recognize some of their members. You may have allied with the clever and wide-eyed dragon scholar Maccath the Crimson in Rise of Tiamat, done battle with Turbulence and Vengeance, the Horned Sisters in Dungeon of the Mad Mage, and seen fireballs slung from the Hosttower of the Arcane in defense of Luskan in Storm King’s Thunder.
These ambitious wizards have lurked in the background for long enough—now, characters will be faced with their true might directly as the Arcane Brotherhood seeks to break into the Caves of Hunger. What secrets lurk within the heart of this glacier, and can you uncover them before the Brotherhood gets to them first? As apocalyptic night descends upon the frozen north, you might be tempted to do anything in order to survive.
Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden releases on September 15th, 2020. This story will be updated as more information is revealed throughout D&D Live 2020.

Looking at the stuff over the years, it will probably be more of the campaigns and a XGtE copy with the newer UA subclasses. I would prefer another sourcebook similar to Eberron (With Dark Sun or a totally new setting (which in itself is extremely unlikely) but at this point, anything goes as long as it seems relatively “new”
OH MY GOSH. ALL I HAVE TO SAY.
Xanathar's 2.0/Planescape (Not the real name, just the speculation)
I think it will be coming out by the end of the year, probably around November.
This book would contain most of the UA spells, subclasses, and magic items that have come out in the past year. It would also contain the Class Feature Variants, and whatever this "Race Feature Variants" thing is. (see the bolded text in that post)
It would also probably contain information on Planescape, similar to the Avernus section of Descent into Avernus, but for all the planes and Sigil.
This is what I think it will be, anyway.
I'm definitely holding out until we find out whether or not the LGS discount will be a thing for this one as well. I had already pre-ordered Theros when they announced that, so I'm holding off for at least a little while. Super excited about it though. With the Dark Alliance game also coming out this year, Ten Towns and the rest of Icewind Dale is getting some serious love this year.
I'd recommend checking out "Faiths of the Forgotten Realms" on Dungeon Masters Guild.
It has a paladin oath (as well as a divine domain, a druid circle, and several spells) for Auril's followers: Oath of Winter's Wrath
Cormyr would really cool
Super excited about returning to this setting!
what age is rime of the frostmaiden for
and when is it coming out
It is coming out september 15, and I would assume that it would be suggested for 12+, because that is what all the other dnd books were, although, I would not stick by that number.
get yeeted
He's still getting royalties?! That's fantastic. Ed Greenwood's setting has been around longer than D&D so he's entitled to a bit of input... I was under the impression that he had sold it outright to TSR way back in the day.
