The bloodcrawlers used to be a terrifying myth told to naughty children to put them to bed, born from a generation before the Creators had brought peace to the Aeterna. Mothers would talk of inhuman figures with emaciated bodies, rotting legs, crawling on all fives and devouring all in their path: creatures so vile they were banished to torment in the Infernal Plains. As time went, the myths faded. So too, did humanity's fear of the bloodcrawlers. Unshackled from fear, human's growth was unbound, unrelenting, into the deepest corners of the Aeterna. But the Creators were never really omnipotent; they could never have banished the bloodcrawlers. The Infernal Plains were a place for the dead, and how could you condemn something so undead?

The bloodcrawlers learned to adapt. Fear of death was not their weapon now, humanity's magic had grown far too deadly, surpassing the raw fear the bloodcrawlers could create. No, humanity had conquered the fear of the Aeterna, but they could never conquer the fear of themselves. Humans were not the only species to utilize the arcane arts - so too, did the bloodcrawlers absorb the Arcana to change their own forms. Grotesque became human, skin had replaced bone and flesh. The Arcana had linked the souls of bloodcrawlers and humans; a new intelligence lurked among the ranks of humanity, something so close to human, yet so unlike anything humanity could ever comprehend.
