Homebrew Xotl Species Details

Xotl's are amphibious humanoids that have odd magical powers and an even stranger look. These beasts are generally very calm and peaceful, more than happy to just live in a body of water for the rest of their lives. However, when the time comes, they are more than capable of defending themselves. Their most impressive ability in their healing factor, which allows them to heal themselves from the brink and even grow back lost limbs. Older Xotl's are even known to be able to regenerate their spines and jaws, making them near impossible to kill in one fight. Unfortunately, these peaceful creatures are seen as an oddity, or a treasure. This brings humans to attempt to seek them out and keep them as property, which has forced these animals to hiding and made the, very wary of humans. However, they maintain their happy-go-lucky attitude and are perfectly content to stay in their homes and do nothing.

Xotl Traits

Xotl's magical abilities give them certain powers such as:

Mystic healing

Because of their odd tie to other realms of magic, Xotl's have the ability to use this magical power to heal themselves. You gain a pool of d6's equal to your level. You may use one of these during battle as a bonus action, or outside of battle at any time. You regain all uses after a long rest.

Ties from the other world

Xotl's tie to the mystic realms have taught them how to adapt their minds to fend off mental invasions or to cast spells. This odd wisdom does come at the cost of Xotl's being somewhat dull, being stuck in lakes and only thinking about natural magic.

Adorable face

Xotl's are adorable creatures who are well renowned for their vibrant colors. This makes them better able to persuade people. This also means that many come after them for their beauty to keep as pets.

Age

Xotl's hardy body and physical prowess allows them to live up to 150 years old, although they reach maturity at 18 like humans.

Amphibious

Can breathe in either water or land

Vacuum maw

Xotl's have evolved to suck up hard to reach prey that would prove to be difficult for others, like large worms and fish. This has given them an ability to use their action to create a cone of air originating at their mouth that can drag any creatures to them. The creature must make a dexterity save of 8+your constitution modifier+ your proficiency bonus. On a successful save nothing happens. On a failed save they are sucked to the players maw and will take an amount of d4 bludgeoning damage equal to half of their level rounded up, and end up directly in front of the player. This has a range of 30 feet

Healing factor

Because of their healing factor, Xotl's are very sturdy and resilient.
