Homebrew Canarius, Wolfmen Species Details
These creatures, called Canarius, are similar in appearance to common wolves, though they take on a slightly humanoid form. They are hulking figures, most reaching just over 7 feet tall on dog-like hind legs. Canarius' bodies are covered with dark, thick, coarse fur designed to withstand extreme temperatures. They have a wolf's head with pointed ears, and clawed paws for hands and feet. Usually the members of this race would have long, thick, full tails to accompany their wolfish appearance, but some have lost their tails due to hunters in the belief that their fur is superior to keep out cold.
Canarius tend to be natural leaders, usually acting as guides or taking roles in their communities. They are bold and are not afraid to speak their mind. When it comes to ones that they care for, they are fiercely loyal and protective, doing whatever it takes to keep the ones that have been lucky enough to earn their loyalty safe, even if it costs them their life. Unlike members of most other races, Canarius tend to stay away from one another. Instead, they roam land far and wide until they find a community that they deem fit and plant down roots. It is not uncommon to find a village with more than one Canarius, but it is uncommon to see Canarius interacting with each other or being near each other by their own will. They usually assume leadership positions within their community, or guard villages from outside threats. Some, though, tend to wander for the rest of their days, leading parties of adventures here to there and helping where they can, but never settling down.
