Homebrew Bastillon Species Details
Mixing the feral, rampaging brutality of the gnolls and the ravenous scorching hunger of elemental fire, bastillons are chaotic and destructive. They are the offsprings of gnolls and fire genasi and can often be found in the City of Brass, as hitmens, mercenaries, bodyguards or even street performers. They are physically similar to gnolls, although their fur and skin often take colors associated with fire, such as blue, red, yellow and white like flames, or charcoal black. Some bastillons simply ressemble regular gnolls covered in reddish orange fur, while other have cracked black skin and hollow fiery eyes with fur made of literal fire. While regular gnolls aim to please the demon lords Yeenoghu, bastillons aim to please the first genasi that gave birth to their kind, whom they see as their deity.
Fiery Mongrels
Like the gnolls and fire, bastillons have a tendency to spread destruction on their path, hunting and eating anything they can get their teeth on. They are not the biggest fan of water and thus they stand to stay away from oceans and lake.
They are fearly common within the Elemental Plane of Fire, where their love of fire is not so much a problem, although their burning passion doesn't always have enough space to grow in a world where everything is already on fire, thus the bastillons living there tend to look for ways to travel into more flammable planes.
Pack Beasts
Despite their destructive nature, bastillons are very social creatures. They enjoy the company of other bastillons, as well as gnolls and other monstrous races. They create bonds quickly and will often invite new acquaintances to be part of their family. A lonely bastillon is a sad bastillon.
They are highly adaptable and will often take the traits of their companions. Bastillons travelling with gnolls become evil and aggressive, while those who would travel around with dwarves for example would tend to walk around hunched down, braid their fur adopt a more lawful lifestyle.
The Flaming Mother
Bastillons can travel across the world, join different group and follow rules, laws and cults all across the multiverse, but in the end they all feel the calling of the Flaming Mother. Their patron, a powerful fire genasi, runs an enormous shop in the City of Brass and controls a cult of fire-worshiping gnolls. The first bastillons were her children, but over time their population rose as the bastillons' blood took hold within many gnoll and genasi lineages.
Every once in a while, a wandering bastillon will feel the need to get back to the Flaming Mother, often bearing offerings and gifts.
Bastillon Names
Most bastillons are proud of their birthname, which is assigned either by their parent if they are within a small familial group, or by the tribe's leader if they live in a larger group.
They often add a surname that they take from their friends, or travelling companion, keeping the surname for as long as they are bonding with them. For example, a bastillon travelling with and forming a bond with an elf named Aelar Liadon might take the surname Liadon for as long as they are travelling together, or might even change it to a surname from a different member of the adventuring party depending on its bond with them.

Alignment
Fire and gnolls are chaotic, thus bastillons are forces of chaos. Although their gnoll blood pull them towards evil, their elemental fire pulls most of them stronger towards neutrality.
