Homebrew Dragon Turtleborn Species Details
Wether due to the whim of a provocative God to mock the more noble Dragonborn or by some arcane interference to create durable soldiers the genesis of the Dragon Turtleborn is not truly know with many pointing to their aggressive nature as evidence for both theories.
Although their Draconic Ancestry is clear in their appearance and temperament many mistake Dragon Turtleborn as a variant of the Tortle race as few truly know what Dragon Turtles look like up close. Large and bulky with most of their size coming from their shells they are between 5ft 5’ to 6ft tall.
At maturity they can weigh in anywhere from 400 pounds upwards depending on age and size of the individual.
Dragon Turtleborn reach adult maturity at between 14-16 years of age depending on environment and can reportedly live up to 100 years though their confrontational nature tends to make this much shorter.
Dragon Turtleborn Traits
Draconic Ancestry, your ancestry exhibits in some unique ways.Ability Score Increase
Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 20 foot. Your base swimming speed is 30 ft.
Hardy Shell
Due to your shell and the shape of your body, you are ill-suited to wearing armor. Your shell provides ample protection, however; it gives you a base AC of 17 (your Dexterity modifier doesn't affect this number). You gain no benefit from wearing armor, but if you are using a shield, you can apply the shield's bonus as normal.
Hold Breath
A Dragon Turtleborn can hold its breath for 15 minutes. This increases by 5 minutes when you reach 5th level (20 minutes), 11th level (25 minutes), and 17th level (30 minutes).
Steam Breath Weapon
When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of scalding steam in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, the creature takes 2d6 damage of the type associated with your Draconic Ancestry. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage. This damage increases by 1d6 when you reach 5th level (2d6), 11th level (3d6), and 17th level (4d6). This attack can be used underwater but can not be used to ignite flammable objects. The damage type is fire.
Languages
Your character can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic.
