Homebrew Angel of Death/Grim Reaper Species Details

For years, we have been told that angels are creatures of purity, justice, and goodness. Faithful creatures who would fight for those lesser than them and would fight alongside those who are worthy.

But nothing is mentioned, those who have fallen from grace. Those who decided that justice and power are not synonymous with peace and grace.

Most commonly known as Death Angels, these angels have accepted the darkest aspects of magic and faith, using them to fuel their desires and beliefs.

They do not care for their divine counterparts, not interested in fighting wars with them (despite what some scriptures state). They are more focused on their own goals. And their survival.

Without a higher divine power to guide them, Death Angels always fight for survival and fight for their beliefs.

As a Death Angel, you have the following traits:

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength and Charisma scores increase by 2 and your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Age

As they are created, not born, grim reapers are effectively immortal, so long as they are not fatally wounded.

Alignment

The lawful nature of angels is still ingrained in Death Angels, however, some do fall into chaos.

Necrotic Blood

The blood of the darkest creatures flows through you. You are immune to necrotic damage.

Immunities

Grim Reapers do not sleep and do not need to sleep, and their lack of a personal mind acts as a counter to any mind-effecting spells or powers.

Dark vision

Imbued with Lobison's power, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 50 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Leech

If a creature dies within 5 feet of a grim reaper, the grim reaper may choose to regain a hit die or spell slot of its choice. This trait may only be used once per long rest and does not apply to constructs or undead. You may use this trait to regain a hit die one additional time per long rest when you reach the 6th level, and again at the 11th, 15th, and 18th level.

Scythe Specialty

When used by a grim reaper, scythes are given the glaive stat block (with finesse), hand-scythes are given the rapier stat block (slashing damage), and sickles are given the scimitar stat block. You are proficient in these three weapons (other pseudo-scythe weapons may be based on the previous). As an attack when you take the Attack Action, you may attack with a scythe, a 2-handed Martial Weapon with which you are proficient. This deals 1d4+3 slashing Damage + 1d8 Necrotic Damage.

Detect Undead

All Grim Reapers can detect undead at will. Rolling a perception or insight check

Death Incarnate

The reaper is a form of death itself and is therefore immune to it. The Grim Reaper cannot be knocked unconscious and is considered dead at 0 HP. If the Grim Reaper would take enough damage to kill him: instead of dying, his body turns to ash and is blown away. However, because a reaper's deity holds them, they can resurrect at a chosen destination in 1d10 days. Reapers have no souls.

eyes of the Rune Keeper

You can read all writing.
