Homebrew Calavera Species Details

Calaveras at one time created for the enjoyment of the Fey, from normal Humanoids Creatures that died in Fey Touched areas left by the Fey large enough to cover villages, and battlefields anywhere mortal creatures would lose one life binding them to a Fey master If retrieved. The newly formed Calaveras are treated as lowly as vermin, or prey for various hunts, even having them Fight each other promising them freedom if they were the victor often still kept as trophies. The longer a Calavera is alive The more of their past life is forgotten.

Some Calaveras are Created from those taken by the fey and true polymorph into animals. Some manage to escape the fey wild but due to the change and The lingering unstable Fey magic they partially reversed into the half-human half-animal after crossing planes turned into a Calavera when they arrive back into the mortal plane.

 Throughout the centuries other beings have begun creating their own Calaveras through magic or corruption either being Fiend who would torment their new servants, a   Lich growing army to protect their dungeon and undead master, or a Wizard unpredictable experimental Magic.

Calavera Face’s are skulls, the common being Beast Skulls, the rarest being Humanoid. If their skull is of a Beast they will be covered in Fur, Feathers, Scales always matching what beast their skull resembles, the color from common to rarest black, brown, grey, and white. If their Skull is Humanoid their skin will be paler of the race the humanoid skull is.    Calavera’s eyes can be a mist like smoke with two dot shining, milky clouded orbs, or empty sockets.

The Marking on a Calaveras  Skull Face represents their  Rebirth in their new body or symbol of there Master if Marked by them.

Names

Calavera may remember their true names from before cursed or steal someone else's if forgotten, They are also renamed by the creators after objects  or Beast 

EX: Vermin,  Raith, Kain, Quill, Pet, Pawn, Rook.

Calavera Traits

Skills from the past are merely a memory in the It's new body, as new skills adapt into those memories.

Calavera Origin

Though Calaveras Origins were created by the Fey, though out the centuries other beings began creating their own through magic /corruption either being Fiend, Lich, or experimental Magic.

Gore

fangs,claws or horns,hooves are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you can deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Race Origins

From the smallest gnomes to the towering bugbear some traits from their old bodies still linger in their reborn Calavera body.
