Homebrew Crossbreed Medusa Species Details

Crossbreed Medusas are the result of a humanoid creature and a Medusa having a child. This child goes through life with traits from both ancestors, either through learning to embrace their culture or their natural ability. While having the physical traits of their humanoid parent, they also tend to have some form of their Medusa parent's curse in some visible way; a living snake in their hair, snake-like eyes, a forked tongue, or even scaly skin in some places. Despite the slight alienation in physical qualities, many Crossbreeds were born of genuine love from both parents and are often welcomed in their respective communities if their parents happen to be popular, and even get to pick up on some skills from both lineages.

Crossbreed Medusa Traits

Crossbreed Medusas retain the physical features of their humanoid parent with the additional feature of having snake-like hair and the ability to use a powerful petrifying gaze.

Ability Score Increase

You can increase one ability score by 1 and another by 2. It is reccomended for Crossbreeds to have their Charisma increased by 1 and Constitution increased by 2.

Age

Crossbreeds suffer from a poor life expectancy compared to their ancestors despite maturing at the same rate. They live up to 50 years, rarely beyond.

Size

Crossbreeds can range anywhere from the short 2.5 foot halfing to the 7 foot tall dragonborn. Thanks to their Medusa blood, they may gain a boost in their height regardless of their humanoid ancestor. It's not uncommon for crossbreeds to be 3 feet taller than the average for their humanoid kin. Your size is either medium or small.

Speed

Crossbreeds, regardless of humanoid origin, can move as quickly as their Medusa parent. You have a walking speed of 30 feet.

Ancestral Trait

Due to either a willingness to learn or a bodily function, Crossbreeds gain a single trait from their humanoid ancestor. Choose any race in the game that is a humanoid and pick one trait that does not share a name with an existing trait and add it to your Crossbreed.

Petrifying Gaze

The Crossbreed can unleash the true power of their gaze when they need to. As an action, if the Crossbreed is not incapacitated, it can force all creatures that can see it within a 30-foot cone to make a Constitution saving throw. The DC for this saving throw is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. Upon a failed save, a creature is instantly petrified for a minute. If a creature succeeds on this save, they are immune to Petrifying Gazes from any Crossbreed for 24 hours. The Crossbreed cannot do this again until they complete a long rest.
