Homebrew Mothfolk Species Details
Most who wander the Feywilds come seeking the wild parties of the Satyrs or the ancient knowledge of the Eladrin. Some, however, are lucky enough to come across the mysterious and undyingly loyal Mothfolk. Mothfolk are people of pure unending passion, who often have bizarre or particular ways of presenting this passion. While their somewhat obsessive nature can lead Mothfolk to become sequestered or hidden from other humanoids, they can be just as kind and goodhearted as any other. Just don’t get between them and their passion, lest you discover the true wrath held behind their fluffy exterior.
Life of The Cryptid
Mothfolk tend to live very secluded lives, not out of a distaste or hatred for others, but simply due to a general contentedness in exploring their own passions. In certain situations, they might find another person who shares a similar adoration to their own, which can often foster a bond like no other between the Mothperson and the other person. However, in most cases, Mothfolk enjoy the content tranquility of their personal corner of the world. This can often lead certain people who spot the Mothfolk in a short glimpse to mistake them for some unknown, mysterious monster, seeing their fluffy fuzz as coarse fur, their varyingly colored wings as giant heads with large glowing eyes, or their curious eyes as burning coals. Most Mothfolk will spend their entire life without ever knowing of the myths and folklore that their presence has garnered.
Uncanny Instinct
By unknown means that have baffled scholars for centuries, Mothfolk have an instinctual avoidance of danger that is nigh unparalleled. With an ability to subconsciously predict the future with near-perfect accuracy, many Mothfolk are sought out for their incredible abilities. In some rare cases, some incredibly skilled Mothfolk have even learned how to access this ability consciously, allowing them short glimpses into the future. There are myths and legends told of some Mothfolk who were even capable of traveling through time itself to prevent horrible calamities.
Boundless Passion
Mothfolk are best defined by their incredible passion for their own niche objects or topics, ranging from collecting various colorful mushrooms to perfecting their own recipes for differently flavored muffins. Many people are often confused by this endless loyal adoration of such specific concepts, and try to find the root of these fascinations. But rarely is there ever such a complex reason behind their love for their passion, and rather that Mothfolk simply finds an inherent joy in it. The Mothfolk Passions table suggests a few obsessions your mothfolk character might possess.
