Homebrew Cambion-ArchFiend Species Details

History

A cambion, unlike a tiefling, is born directly from a human and a fiend or, more rarely, the offspring of an incubus and a succubus. The result of this union appears to be stillborn, not showing a sign of life through pulse or breath, though responsive to touch and, as legend tells, as heavy as a horse. This continues until the age of seven when they start to resemble their human parent more closely, although their often red skin, leathery wings and sinewy tails betray their otherworldly heritage.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Abyssal and Infernal. As well as the language of your mortal parent.

Cambion Names

Cambion names fall into two broad categories. Cambions born into another culture typically have names reflective of that culture while others have names derived from the Infernal or Abyssal language, passed down through generations, that reflect their fiendish heritage. Like the true name of an arch-fiend or devil, this can be used to bind a cambion to another's will in a pseudo-pact

Male Infernal Names: Akmenos, Amnon, Barakas, Damakos, Ekemon, lados, Kairon. Leucis, Melech, Mordai, Morthos. Pelaios, Skamos. Therai

Female Infernal Names: Akta, Anakis, Bryseis, Criella, Damaia, Ea, Kallista, Lerissa, Makaria, Nemeia, Orianna, Phelaia, Rieta

Cambion-ArchFiend Traits

Their fiendish parent largely contributes to these particular features. Horns may curl and swirl like a ram’s, point sharply upwards towards the sky like a horned devil or resemble a rack of antlers. Their body could be partially scaled or covered in thick, leathery skin, both of which could range from red, purple and green to white, grey and black. Cloven hooves, claws and forked tongues are not uncommon either. Despite all of these terrifying traits, they are considered attractive by many.

Hellish Tricks

At 3rd level you begin to unlocking the powers of your hellish ancestry. You learn one cantrip you select here. Choose one of the following cantrips: control flames, produce flame, thaumaturgy or vicious mockery. Your spellcasting ability is Charisma.

Bloodlust

Cambions, regardless of their more or less demonic appearance, will become increasingly frantic the longer a fight drags on, and less likely to listen to teammates or to pay attention to anything else than the fight. They might need a few minutes to calm down after combat is over, to let the adrenaline rush end.

More importantly, if a cambion were to lose consciousness due to hostile actions, their demonic part will take over in self-preservation and wreck havoc among allies and enemies alike until it is knocked out or killed.

Damnation

Most religious places and objects will slowly weaken the cambion until they pass out. They will stay prone until they are out of the place/object's area of infuence.

Hellborn

When you reach 5th level you gain further mastery over the wicked powers of your malefic descent. You learn one fiendish spell.

Choose one of the following spells you wish to gain at that level: burning hands, charm Person, command, disguise self or hellish rebuke. You may only cast your selected spell once, regaining the ability to use the spell after a short rest. Your spellcasting ability is Charisma.

Cambion Lance

When you take the attack action, you can replace one of your attacks to hurl a bolt of raw fiendish magic. With a reach of 120ft, this attack uses either your strength or character modifier, and it deals 2d8 damage on a hit. The damage type for this attack is the same as your Otherwordly Resistence feature. The damage increases to 3d8 at 5th level, 4d8 at 11th level, and 5d8 at 17th level. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Dark Vision

In dim light, you can see as if in bright light. In darkness, you can see as if in dim light up to 150 feet. You can see color in the dark.
