Homebrew Aarellian Species Details
Aarellians generally live in communities on the deep end of ocean reefs but will occasionally travel onto land to exchange goods and services.
Aarellians skin change color or hues based off what mood they are in, making them more trust worthy and easier to communicate with then most other races. Colors and hues often include everything between blue and red, but can include other colors as well. An example of this would be an Aarellians skin tone changing to a light blue hue when they are happy or satisfied, then back to their base skin tone after a few moments or when their feelings change. Few Aarellians have managed to gain slight control of these hues, often dampening or darkening the shade of the colors to make it less noticeable.
Aarellians are often known for being beautiful due to their flawless skin of changing colors, and intelligent due to their diplomatic and merchant dealings with Tritons, Vedalken and land dwellers. Communities of Aarellians are often protective of their homes due to the fact that invaders will attack with the intent to kidnap and sell Aarellians into slavery for incredible prices. If a community of Aarellians feel threatened or fear an invasion they will often temporarily move deeper into the ocean to protect themselves.
Aarellians have the ability to reduce their own weight significantly, allowing them to climb easier and fall slower. If you are conscious when falling you can use your action to reduce your weight and take half damage from falls. Aarellians hair will often be affected by this and float without them realizing it.

Posted Jun 22, 2023Nice, I really like this idea. Maybe make it so that deception checks get disadvantage because you can kind of tell when the Aarellian is lying? To make up for the disadvantage, maybe give it advantage on investigation checks because they are intelligent? (or something like that). They should also get a language of sorts. I made this language called "Merchant's speak" which is for the trade-oriented homebrew races and some others as well. These guys also look like they should get proficiency in charisma and intelligence saving throws. Since they're good traders they should get proficiency in persuasion and insight? Anyways this is cool and I'm gonna copy it down cuz i don't wanna pay for a premium subscription.
