Homebrew Bathodynt Species Details
"The badger had paused on the edge of the shadows that filled the back of the cave. Its powerful shoulders were hunched and its claws scraped on rock. Its head swung to and fro, the white stripe glimmering, as if it were deciding which of them to attack first."
"He stared in disbelief, his heart pounding. “I am Midnight.” The badger’s voice was deep and rasping, like the sound of the pebbles turning under the waves. “With you I must speak.”
Something New
The Bathodynt are a species gifted by mother nature’s heart from heaven to the world. From seeds grew flowers, from flowers the Bathodynt.
Bathodynts resemble the appearance of the common European badger (Meles meles) and have the shared personality traits of badgers in European folklore. Notably the notion that European badgers are wise, sensible and often seen as leaders with caring souls. They also have a central association to luck and the blessings to those around them; as frequently in poetry, seeing a badger on one’s trail has a durable correlation with one’s demise.
Should one hear a badger call,
And then an ullot [owl] cry,
Make thy peace with god, good soul,
For shortly thou shalt die.
- Unknown origin
It would not be punitive for one to assume the worst in these beings, to presume their souls are dipped in sour venom before being released into this world; this is a false allegation. The Bathodynt are a generous, gentle making; worshipping nature and fighting for its honour when needed. Conceived to be protectors, sent by nature’s architect to defend the soil we walk, the water we drink and the air we breathe. The Bathodynt do it all; hiding in the shadows, keeping us all safe from diabolical damnation, never seen, never heard, concealed from all senses who seek them.
Loyal from Floral
A Bathodynt is a direct descendant of nature, a perceptive pearl of wisdom gifted by mother’s finest intentions.
A field in spring full of flowers and morning dew, cupped by petals of gorgeous paint, a being slumbers. A being yet to feel the sun’s warm embrace, the grass under its feet, the crisp taste of morning air at dawns advent. Not yet conscious of the potential Mother Nature envisions for her ground-breaking design, this was the first.
A sudden sound of clouds clapping together creates a dark cast over the land; the life around breathes frigid air as a thick fog takes form. A bitter blizzard is looming. From the dark cast above, snow starts to fall, April’s children stare in disbelief as they watch. As the first snowflake touches the flower in which our being dwells, fascination rouses; the wiggling of toes and the sniffing of a nose, a new soul is brought into this world.
More would follow, a roly-poly out of the vivid petals clasp, starts a new species and from there, annually, this field would bare the Bathodynt, bringing a modern age of warriors and mystics, sworn to protect the ground we walk, the air we breathe and water we drink.
