Homebrew Ar Vayaeren Vampyr Species Details

Race for the 5e Draemeria Module.

“Noticing the form of a bat swooping around the black, star-peppered canopy above, Radzieg made his way into the cave; torch held aloft. The sound of fabric gracing stone was all the warning he had before the creature was on him and sinking fangs into his neck…

As Radzieg weakened and his legs fell out from under him, he looked upon the terrible, ancient face of his assailant… “Fear not human” the eery, dry voice spoke… “it’s almost over”....

In an instant, the creature was hunched over him and with a subtle crack, broke his own skin with a fang’s prick… “Drink up” the creature said as he laughed mercilessly, knowing full well the extent of the curse he was foisting upon the pathetic peasant.”

Cursed Creatures -

An ancient blood curse lingers within your veins, feeding your desire for the blood of mortals, and keeping you trapped within the world of the living. Misunderstood by mortals and perceived as a great threat to the mortal realm, Vampyrs seek out a life of isolation and loneliness, for that is the way of the curse that binds them. A deathless existence has allowed the ancient race of Vampyr to assume new positions within civilized society, as many civilizations have risen and fallen within their lifetimes. Many Vampyrs have taken up peaceful lives that don’t draw attention whatsoever, for despite the many folk tales, Vampyrs aren’t all that black and white.

Misunderstood & Forsaken -

Haunted by countless misconceptions, the Vampyrs often take them in stride as light hearted jests, as some ideas about them are truly ridiculous. For instance, as documented by a member of the Draemerian Beaster Guild; “Vampyrs are infact hideously allergic to the common Garlic bulb, finding the scent so revolting, that they will be driven to death.”. However, the most prominent innacuracy in the field of Vampyrology is that Vampires are undead; Lesser Vampires are indeed undead, but the so called “Higher Vampire” is in fact a living, but deathless creature; meaning time will not kill them.

Although the Vampyr isn’t revolted by garlic, or driven off by religious ornamentation, their curse bears true dangers - should they forget to be careful. Silvered Blades and Radiant Energy for instance will work effectively against Vampyrs. Vampyrs also needn’t drink blood, which has made slipping into society that much easier.
