Homebrew Cat Species Details

Commonly kept as a house pet to hunt vermin, Cats are tiny and versatile creatures with pointy ears, fur, a snout, a tail, and claws

Cats are natural-born predators and have developed very good eyesight to hunt prey. Due to their small stature, they typically hunt at night to avoid being spotted and opt for sneak attacks. Cats typically live in the homes of other creatures or in forests where they live in the wild.

Your Cat character might be less intelligent than other creatures, but some have learned to be clever in their own ways.

Creature Type

Every creature in D&D, including every player character, has a special tag in the rules that identify the type of creature they are. Unlike most player characters, cats are of the Beast type. Creature types don’t have rules themselves, but some rules in the game affect creatures of certain types in different ways.

Life Span

Cats typically live for about 7 years in the wild, and on average 14 years when being well kept. Cats reach maturity after 6 months and become elderly after 6 years.

Height and Weight

Player characters, including cats, typically fall into the same ranges of height and weight that humans have in our world. If you’d like to determine your character’s height or weight randomly, consult the Random Height and Weight table in the Player’s Handbook, and choose the row in the table that best represents the build you imagine for your character.
