Homebrew Blightkin Species Details
These large, bloated lumps of flesh have survived even the deadliest of diseases. Many speculate that these are a new kind of sentiment zombies. More often than not, blightkin originates from small villages that have contracted deadly diseases and many died from them. While shambling through on adventures, a blightkin learns to stand their ground and to take a hit. They do not have the best minds or are not very sociable, but blightkin makes it up for their strength and sturdy structure. These creatures can generally rise from almost any race, whether it be a diseased dwarf, to an infected Dragonborn, because disease does not discriminate. Blightkin normally has a sad tale to tell but will tell it with a smile plastered on their face. Almost as infectious as their disease, their happiness is to be spread to others around them.
Blightkin Traits
With a blistered smile plastered across their face, a Blightkin possesses the following traits:Ability Score Increase
Blightkin have learned and evolved to take a large hit to the gut. Their bloated bodies absorb a lot of impacts that come into contact with them, increasing their constitution score by 2. Combined with their incredible structure and bloatedness, they have an unusual strength among themselves, increasing their strength score by 1. They are able to move large creatures and small houses that are nearly twice their size with their own skin-bare hands. However, there are small consequences for having such gifts. They are not the fastest race there is to fight with, decreasing their dexterity by 2.
Age
Blightkin lives short lives, as their diseased bodies continue to melt away until there is nothing but bare bone. Most blightkin become infected around the age of 30. After they become infected, they usually melt away at the age of 40. Some are able to live as long as 70, if specific requirements are met.
Size
Blightkin are usually around the size of humans. Their bloated bodies, however, allow for a larger race selection. Some smaller blightkin are around 4 feet tall, while taller ones can tower around 6.5 feet tall. Some bloated blightkin can be as tall as 8 feet tall. They normally weigh around 280 pounds, due to their large mass of diseased skin, and their size can be medium to large.
Speed
The blightkin is a slow race to play. Their large, bloated bodies prevent them from being the perfect bodyguard in a party. A blightkin's base walking speed is 15 feet.
Disgusting Resilience
A blightkin's condition can save its life and destroy it. if an attack were to decrease a blightkin's hit points to 0, the blightkin can make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw. On a success, the blightkin's hitpoints is reduced to 1 instead of 0. This effect only applies once per encounter.
Diseased Body
A blightkin will always spread its disease to others, hoping that the infected will become like them. Blightkins are normally covered in infectious diseases, and can easily spread those diseases to others near them. If a creature ends its turn within 5 feet of a blightkin, that creature must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the creature takes 2d6 poison damage from the countless diseases on the blightkin, and half as much on a success.
Damage Resistance
A blightkin's skin melts off of its bones slowly every day. Being that they are already melting their skin off, a blightkin has resistance to acid damage.
