Homebrew Centikin Species Details

It was night and everyone was happy. It seemed weird to us to see the whole village partying each night, but it was a tradition and neither me, nor Halström and Eïleen would complaint about those joyfull moments where they could use their skills in music and magic to impress everyone and drink as much as they want. Lin Chong was gleefully dancing to our dear bard's music near the fire, making once more a demonstration of his incredible agility and dexterity. But it seemed weird. When you once saw a golden centikin defying a pack of bandits alone, without any armor or weapon, telling you he will take care of it because letting his guests getting their hands dirty instead of him was disrespectful for them, even if they were adventurers. And then taking down said bandits one by one, breaking there weapons with his bare hands and shattering their armors at a breathtaking speed, using his tail to leap back into fight after each attack or dodge. You surely are surprised to see this same centikin all friendly, singing and dancing like an excited youngtser during a party.

Once upon long gone days, horrendous creatures apeared out of nowhere. Those were giant centipedes able to float in the air and to resists dragons' powers to hunt them down and feed on their meat. Those giant monsters were such fierce hunter, they put both dragons and Dragondorn very existence in such a danger all the dragon gods' cult made a temporary alliance to send them back were they belong. Nowadays, giant centipedes have disapeared almost entirely and finding one is extremely rare, but they left something behind them : Centikins. A strange race of humanoïde centipede creatures that seemed to have apeared by themself for no reasons and to be way less aggressive and bloodthirsty than their ancestors.

Proud Warriors

Even though they are much more pacifists than their monstruous ancestors, Centikins are still warriors. This can be seen in the way they always try first to handle conflicts themselves, especially when they have guests, and take pride into solving their problems themselves. Tribal dances reflect that as well since they are quite litteraly fights with invisible ennemies. These dances are really important to the Centikin culture, each tribe got their own dances or variations of the same dance, if they Come from a same tribe that separated, and Centikin use them to help themselves fight their problems in life and internal, and emotial, struggles.

They are also really talented hunters that, most of the times, dont even use weapons and prefer use their body to fight. However, they do use such things as bows, spears and some more tribal weapons such as thick Iron needles they use to throw or Iron blowguns. Some tribes even use canons and gunpowder. Ironically, Centikins do have a great craftmanship in terms of Iron weaponery and the things they craft got a really typical style.

Wildbent Tribes

Centikin tribes lives in the wild, usually in forests, far from big cities. They are not violent but keeping the wild healthy in their territories is important for them, so most of the tribes have agreements with the nerby cities and villages to prevent them from expending or exploiting nature too much, thus preserving the wild. Centikin have a really strong bond with nature so most of their folklore, legends and supertitions are related to the wild. They are also very respectfull towards it and never take more than they need, leaving their lands thriving, which tends to make interested smugglers and poachers, but they usually get chased out by the Centikins pretty quick.

This lifestyle results in modests but suite impressive villages in symbiosis with nature, like villages built in carved trees kept alive by the magic of the druids, a really diversified gastronomy and simple clothing. Despite that, Centikin love jewelry and ornements, so it's common for them to get in touch with the nerby tows and villages to bargain and exchange. Some tribes even have contracts with dwarfs specially for that. Centikins are also more prone to propose some of their goods or skills in exchange of things than to play with money, and to ask the same things in return for their favors.

Centikin Names

Centikin have personal names given at birth, but they put their family's names first as a mark of honor. Families' names are mostly the name an important member of the family that greatly helped the tribe in any way. A "Bond Name" is often used as a term of endearment for people they are close to or they really like. The name might recall an event, center on a habit or a physical trait.

Male Names: Wanglun, Liquhi, Gao, Haora, Zixuan, Duan

Female Names: Yinu, Jiaqi, Shihan, Xihuan, Pei-Pei, Fang-La

Bond Names: bevnosthyr, cayosbaut, vrakricin, turalisauriv

The Drowned

Most of Centikin tribes are passific but some of them, however, worship their ancestors and live as fierce and bloodthirsty warriors. These tribes are called "the Drowned" as they are considered "drowned" in their hunting instinct to a point it became normal for them to kill just for the pride of being the most powerful and showing it, the elders learning to youngsters the importance of being ruthless as hunters and reclaiming the status their ancestors had, unlike the "lazy tribes" that want only "stupid peace". These tribes are very rare, but they still exists and are hunted by special inquisitions of the diverse dragon gods' cults.

Centikin Traits

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2, your Constitution score increases by 1, and your Charisma score decreases by 1.

Age

Young Centikins grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. They live to be around 80.

You gain proficiency in the perception skill.

Size

Much like Dragonborns, Centikin are taller than Humans, being well over 6 feet, but are lighter than Dragonborns. They are still heavier than Humans depending on what kind of tail they have. Your size is medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Insectoid Tail

Some Centikin tails are thicker with softer shell to use them to leap. Other thicker with thoughter shell are used to protect. Some thinner with softer shell are used to grab things or hold to things. And some thinner with thoughter shell are used to attack.

Quick Draw

You gain 10ft of speed if acting first in the fight.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
