Homebrew Coleopteroid Species Details

The trail of evolution has been sparked with many diverse and unique species, but the Coleopteroids are some of the most interesting creatures on the planet. Coleopteroids are a naturally constitutional race whose biology stems from Beetles and Neanderthals. Because of this, A Coleopteroid stands on two legs, but has two sets of arms. The first pair are at the base of the shoulders, while the second smaller pair jut out from a Coleopteroid's mid-waist, and drop a few inches higher than a Coleopteroid's main arms. A Coleopteroid's shell completely covers their body, except for a few places that must retain flexibility. This shell will change its shape, color, and design, depending on which region a Coleopteroid originates from. A Coleopteroid is also blessed with a pair of wings that allow a Coleopteroid a medium range of flight capability. These wings are hidden underneath their back shell, and grow stronger with every year a Coleopteroid ages. Coleopteroid's foster strong a kinship with their colony, and tend to act in response to a colonies' needs or as emissaries of their beliefs. The true nature of a Coleopteroid is never fixed, and is usually decided by the individual. Whether this be to protect a colony, to build shelters, to document a Colony's history, or to drift out and explore the world around them. In all cases, A Coleopteroid is expected to make their path clear before embarking, taking an oath unique to each clan as to how that Coleopteroid plans to achieve their goals.

Coleopteroid Traits

Your Coleopteroid has a particular set of traits unique to their species.

Ability Score Increase

As a Coleopteroid, your constitution score increases by 2, and your strength score increases by 1.

Age

From birth to around 6 months, Coleopteroids appear as infant Larvae. The color of their skin at this time is representative of the pattern their shell will take on during their adult stage. After 6 months, the larvae become maturing Pupa, and take on a more humanoid appearance than they did during their larvae stage. Coleopteroids have a shorter life expectancy than most. The maturation state between Pupa and Adult takes roughly 7 years, meaning that an adult Coleopteroid would be reaching 8 years old by the time they usually settle on a pursuit. Coleopteroids have a lifespan of 50 years.

Alignment

Coleopteroids are widely a neutral good species. Very few choose a chaotic path, and even fewer turn to the path of evil. These few may have suffered the loss of their colony, or have been exiled from one. Some coleopteroids have a more lawful path, which usually sets them towards joining The Chord, a spiritual and religious creed sworn to protect and defend Coleopteroids everywhere, as well as preserve the history of their species.

Size

Coleopteroids tend to be taller than humans, having an average height of 6 feet for both Male and Females. Depending on the region and class of Coleopteroid, their weights can vary between 150 and 400 pounds. Your size is medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Flight

Your Coleopteroid is fitted with a pair of wings that become accessible at the beginning of adulthood. That being said, if you are playing as a Coleopteroid who is below the age of 8, their wings will not be readily available. A Coleopteroid's wings will vary in size depending on the weight and build of the character. These wings allow moderate flight for a duration of 30 minutes without rest. If the duration of a Coleopteroid's flight is filled, it will take an hour of rest before flight can resume. Coleopteroids have an initial flight speed of 45 feet per turn, but this number will increase depending on your level. If a Coleopteroid's wings are damaged, this will heavily hinder their ability to fly and must be healed before flight can resume.

Darkvision

Your insect lineage has gifted you with superior vision when in darker and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of grey.

Languages

You have the ability to speak, write, and read Co'lith, which is a language almost completely exclusive to Coleopteroids. This is a language that is very difficult for other species to discern as it is derived from specific vocal organs that only Coleopteroids have. This language is also found in writing, which can be learned and copied. Coleopteroids can also speak Common, but cannot read or write it.
