Homebrew Cunila Species Details
”Cunilae, though caring and cute, are actually pretty xenophobic, and try their best to have as little interactions with humans and humanoids alike. They mainly uphold this separation from society merely out of fear, though it is not until recently that they have begun to warm up to the likes of modern civilization, but they will still try to stay away from major cities and towns. However, it wasn't until the latest age that they have began to come out and show curiosity towards the new world. Unfortunately, most colonies still tend to keep their distance from the 'Tallfolk'.“
-Luandëy, Historian of Ancient Races
Overview
Cunilae are a race of rabbit-like humanoids, only recently coming back from a near extinction of their kind, strangely enough. They are shy humanoids, and quite small, ranging from 3' all the way to 5', though the latter height is exceedingly rare. Their appearance is mainly humanoid in facial features, the most apparent feature the Cunilae have are their ears. Most of them have long, floppy ears, which are able to perk up when they sense danger. Another feature of theirs that tends to stick out is their tail, which is a short and fuzzy rabbit tail. Some Cunilae, a subrace known as Burrowing Cunilae, have claws instead of human-like hands, making them excellent at burrowing.
An Ancient Civilization Resurfaced
Though thought to be mere superstition and folklore until recently, they have lately been showing curiosity of the new hierarchy of the new world. Merchants and Scholars alike flock towards known Cunilae villages, seeking to learn about the history of the world and to trade goods between the meek Cunila. Though for obvious reasons, most Cunila towns and areas are yet to have a desire to be discovered, merely from fear and discontent of the “Outsiders.” And there are some even rarer cases in which a Cunila will actually leave the sanction of their own homes to learn more about the modern world. When in the modern world, they usually prefer to find work in temples and workshops.
Ways of Life
Many Cunilae live in colonies consisting of 50 to 200. When they find a mate, they partake in a vigorous wedding ceremony which bonds the two together eternally in a sincere and loving bond. Usually, the Eldest of a Cunila Colony is the leader of the entire colony, unless they are unfit to lead the colony. Many colonies partake in a same event known as a Grand Cunila Race, where both young and old alike compete in speed and endurance races. These races have been known to last either to a few days to even months. Then, for the final race of the event, all the Elders of each colony gather up to compete between each other, and the winner of this race gets to be crowned as the Grand Elder, who will be considered the champion until the next Grand Cunila Race comes along. All Cunilae also have a keen sense with nature, and some are excellent burrowers, known as a subrace called Burrowing Cunilae.
The Legend of Lefrý
There is an ancient tale of a 5' 2" Cunilae by the name of Lefrý, who was believed to lead an army of around a million other Cunilae to defeat the dreaded ancient race known as the Wolfen, and end the war that plagued the ancient world. While the Cunilae warriors were victorious, many lives were lost, including the mighty hero Lefrý, and with his last breath, he tood down the diabolical Wolfen Alpha Kírshnæ, extinguishing the roaring flame of the Wolfen's reign of tyranny. The legend has had many slight variations from generation to generation, but the majority of the heroic deeds of Lefrý.
