Homebrew Caraxo Maloana Species Details
Caraxo Maloana are a rare and rather unknown people. Tending to keep their true forms and intentions a secret, much more preferring to stick to their forests. When they do explore out and interact with society their true intentions are normally kept close to their chests not trusting others with them easily.
A Hidden People
Most Caraxo Maloana live in secluded tribes, just outside of human or elven villages; their presence is mostly only known through fairy tales.
They mostly live in large forests with temperate climates. Preferring to live in the deeper parts of the forest where the leaves almost block out the sky. They stay there during the day, their eyes sensitive to bright lights and being almost blind in broad daylight. In the cover of the night they will move into the outer edges of the forest to hunt, occasionally even going into human settlements to enjoy their food and drink. The more violently inclined or just ones who are used to it will separate people from the town or groups in the forest to eat them or trick them into a deal.
True forms and Cloaks
Caraxo Maloana have two separate forms like that of a selkie or a lycanthrope. Much like the selkie one would have to be born a Caraxo Maloana and can not be made into one. The closest a non-Caraxo Maloana could get would be through the mating process.
The first form of a Caraxo Maloana has its true form. A large humanoid like moth creature with a large bare deer like skull for their head with only large, sharp teeth and fangs separating them from a deer. Inside the eye sockets are two glowing pinpricks to represent their eyes, colors of these ranging from blues, purples, and reds. Moving down their body they have a thick, fluffy ring of fur circling their neck, coming down to a point at their mid chest. This fur is normally a darker color than the rest of the light, short fur like fluff that covers the rest of their body, until you reach their lower legs. The coloration of their fur ranges from light to dark browns. Their lower legs are reminiscent of those of harpys, large bird-like talons replacing their feet. Their most defining feature besides their large skulls is a pair of moth-like wings on their back. The pattern on the wings mimicking that of the death head moth with a wingspan ranging from ten to twelve feet long. Their heights range from around five and half feet tall to as large as eight feet tall, the average being around six foot three.
Their other form is a more humanoid figure, taking the appearance of an elf, keeping their height and general physique from their true form when they do. Their eyes keep the same glowing effect and color, giving them an otherworldly look. They can choose the sex and appearance of this figure each time they transform, with most choosing one form and sticking with that for most of their lives. They can only change their bodies in any way that would make sense for an elf body to have.
When they transform it is similar to that of a selkie. Their skull melting away into the back of a hooded cloak, the rest of their body disappearing into their wings, forming a cloak that can wrap around their whole body. This cloak and the skull on it will share the same signs of damage and wear on it on both forms. Much like a selkie they can not transform without this cloak and due to this it is their most treasured possession. Unlike selkies most Caraxo Maloana can not feel anything that is happening to their cloak unless it affects the hood/skull part of the cloak. Due to this many Caraxo Maloana will actually repair their wings while they are in cloak form in order to feel less pain.
Caraxo Maloana have a fluid relationship with gender, seeing it as one characteristic to change among many.
