Homebrew Cogellas Species Details

An ancient race that were once guardians of a higher realm dedicated to the protection of knowledge and its preservation. But when demons attacked these guardians, the Aural Scribes, and killed them, they didn't realize that the scribe's souls wouldn't move on to a higher realm. Since they were dedicated to preserving knowledge their souls fragmented into thousands of shards that fell into the Material Realm. These shards fell as meteorites. When they landed they cracked open like eggs, inside a cogellas awoke. The first people to lay eyes on them instantly went insane because of their celestial forms, and so they covered up in loose fitting robes, usually split at the legs. They always dawn hoods and masks that crudely resembled human faces. These masks have the ability to change expression based on the wearers current emotion. If the cogellas is feeling happy the mask will smile, if he is angry it will frown or dawn a hideous face. Only rarely does a cogellas take of its mask to reveal its dark, sun kissed skin. The most noticeable feature, however would be its pure platinum iris. Otherwise the face is human in its features. The race has a strong magical connection and often become nomadic performers, travelling from town to town, putting on shows and displays of magic in exchange for, not usually money, information or facts. They love to collect knowledge and are always interested in a juicy rumor or the latest piece of discovery, although they do appreciate money or other goods. They view other races as wonderful story tellers and amazing adventurers. They will often join a mercenary company or pledge their services to an explorers guild so they can see more of the world and collect their own stories. When a cogellas dies that shard of the original scribes that lives within them is released back into the heavens. Usually in about three to five years that shard falls back to the Material Realm as a meteorite and the cycle begins anew.

Walking on Air

The cogellas are able to hover about one foot off the ground at will. On a bonus action the cogellas will lift from the ground and hover in the air. This is treated like a spell as concentration is required but no rest is needed afterward. Using any other ability, spell, taking damage or anything else that would break concentration except for the to stop on their own will cause them fall to the ground.
