Homebrew Davni (Tiefling/Elf) Species Details

Mixed Bloodline

Davni are derived from a mix of the Tiefling and Elven bloodlines, and in the broadest possible sense, they still look Elven. However, their infernal heritage has left a clear imprint on their appearance. Davni have large horns that take any of a variety of shapes: some have curling horns like a ram, others have straight and tall horns like a gazelle’s, and some spiral upward like an antelopes’ horns. They have thick tails, four to five feet long, which lash or coil around their legs when they get upset or nervous. Their canine teeth are sharply pointed, and their eyes are are still elven with slitted pupils due to their infernal blood. Their skin tones cover the full range of human/elven coloration, but also include various shades of red. Their hair, cascading down from behind their horns, is usually dark, from black or brown to dark reds, blues, all the way to silver.

Self-Reliant and Suspicious

Davni subsist in small almost non-existent minorities found mostly in rural country sides and mountains, hidden away from the world like their elven ancestors. When they have to make a trip away from their dwelling they are careful to use concealment magic to hide their horns and only travel to small towns. Sometimes they live among other minority populations in enclaves where they are treated with more respect.

Lacking a true homeland, after being cast out from the elven villages, davni follow in the footsteps of their tiefling counterparts and know that they have to make their own way in the world and that they have to be strong to survive. They are not quick to trust anyone who claims to be a friend, but when a davni’s companions demonstrate that they trust him or her, the davni learns to extend the same trust to them. And like their tiefling counterparts once a davni gives someone loyalty, the davni is a firm friend or ally for life.

Davni Names

Davni names are generally a mix of Tiefling and Elven naming schemes

Tiefling names fall into three broad categories. Tieflings born into another culture typically have names reflective of that culture. Some have names derived from the Infernal language, passed down through generations, that reflect their fiendish heritage. And some younger tieflings, striving to find a place in the world, adopt a name that signifies a virtue or other concept and then try to embody that concept. For some, the chosen name is a noble quest. For others, it’s a grim destiny.

Elves are considered children until they declare themselves adults, some time after the hundredth birthday, Davni retain this quality due to their extended lifespans and before this period they are called by child names.

On declaring adulthood, an elf selects an adult name, although those who knew him or her as a youngster might continue to use the child name. Each elf’s adult name is a unique creation, though it might reflect the names of respected individuals or other family members. Little distinction exists between male names and female names; the groupings here reflect only general tendencies. In addition, every elf bears a family name, typically a combination of other Elvish words. Some elves traveling among humans translate their family names into Common, but others retain the Elvish version.

MET WITH MISTRUST

Ignorant people tend to be suspicious of Davni, assuming that their infernal heritage has left its mark on their personality and morality, not just their appearance. The reality is that a davni’s bloodline doesn’t affect their personality. They are gifted with magic from the infernal and elven realms but chart their own course in life.

Davni (Tiefling/Elf) Traits

Davni share the horns, tails and teeth of the Tiefling and the long pointed ears, slim but strong bodies and magical aura of the Elves

Fey Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Trance

Thanks to your elven blood, Davni don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Ability Score Increase

Your Intelligence score increases by 1, and your Charisma score increases by 2.

Age

Although davni reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. A davni typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 1500 years old

Size

Tieflings are about the same size and build as humans. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your infernal and elven heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Infernal Legacy

You gain the Hellish Resistance perk from your Infernal legacy but your elven blood suppresses all of your infernal legacy spells other than Hellish rebuke that you would normally gain.

Hellish Resistance

  • You have resistance to fire damage.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Infernal and Elvish
