Homebrew Banyari Species Details
All Banyari live in community under their creator. The Mother Tree, also named Baobab. They like to live in the middle of jungles where they were born and raised, living in harmony with every being that lives within it. The Banyari are a tight community that live for each other, but that also love meeting the strangers that wonder into their small villages. Each of these villages is settled in the Baobab, which is way taller than any other tree in the woods and much thicker. These little creatures love to party, dance, eat and hunt.
Descendant of the Wilds
Small and defenseless creatures living in the unforgiving wilds. Or at least that's what you would think if someone didn't give you their full description.
The Banyari are small creatures standing at 3 feet tall and don't weigh more than 40 pounds, they are animal like creatures.
Rabbits, Moles, Raccoons, Possums, are just some of the many small species Banyari tend to look like. Sometimes, mixtures of several animals also happen, giving them round fuzzy bunny tails and the ears and stripes of raccoons.
The Banyari go through rituals when they are born, where they are brought to special rooms in the Baobab. When the small Banyari leave these rooms, they come with glowing like features throughout their body and the thing they are most well known for. The vines and branches growing from their back.
The Katalox
The Katalox is the name given to the branches on the back of the Banyari. The Katalox takes different shapes and have different properties depending on what the Banyari wants to do. The forms of the Katalox include an exoskeleton to increase you physical abilities, a spider leg form which allows the Banyari to climb rough walls and terrain, and a simple pouch like form which helps them better move around.
Overall the Katalox is what allows the Banyari to survive in the danger of the woods, and allows them to be the strong small bois they are.
Leaving the Tribe
The tribe is the most important thing for the Banyari, but some like to understand the world, for the Banyari are curious. So it isn't unusual to meet Banyari, specially in the Haark, where they are mostly students before they return to their tribes to live the rest of their lives.

Katalox
The Katalox are the vines and branches behind the Banyari. The Katalox is usually in a backpack like fashion where it doesn't do much, but preserve energies and avoid your physical deterioration. This is called the Bulb Form. The Katalox can be activated once per long rest for 1 hour.
There are different actions that you can do with your Katalox:
- Awake Katalox: When the Katalox is in Bulb form you can use an action to change it's Form.
- Change Form: Changing Form requires a bonus action and it consumes 15 mins of the total time you can use your Katalox per long rest.
A couple of things to understand:
- Bulb Form does not spend the time you can use your Katalox per rest. Changing to Bulb Form requires a Change Form action unless the 1 hour period has finished and it will retract by itself. You should use Bulb Form to save time and be able to save the Katalox for later.
- For each additional hour you use after the initial time, you get one exhaustion point.
There are 4 Forms the Katalox can take:
Bulb Form
While in this form, the Katalox is resting. This form looks like a bulb on your back and it has space to store a few small items within it's vines.
Gorilla Form
While in this form, the Katalox increases slightly all your physical abilities. The Katalox covers most of the body, making you look bigger and covering you better. You get a +1 modifier to your Strength, Dexterity and Constitution. This does not change your Hit Points.
Spider Form
While in this form, the Katalox creates 6 big branches pulling you out of the floor, making you effectively look like a spider. These legs allow you to easily pass through rough terrain and to climb walls and ceilings. You gain the same effects described in spider climb and rough terrain doesn't hinder you.
Armadillo Form
While in this form, the Katalox completely wraps around you making a ball of branches. While in this form your movement is 0ft, you can't do attack rolls and can only cast spells that don't require Somatic and Material components. While in this form, you get +10AC.
Languages
