Homebrew Balrog Species Details

- Born of shadow and flame,  the Balrogs are feared throughout the world as terrible creatures. Shaped by the Dark Lord, Balrogs were originally beings of light who abandoned their fair forms in return for great power. Whilst some Balrogs are still faithful servants to what remains of the Dark Lord's dying power , others are wanderers fighting for coin and land in great wars, and still others find themselves adrift, with no clear calling in life.

Powerful Physical Form

Long ago the Balrogs gave up their fair forms for ones of great power and look very much like demons with bodies of shadow and flame, with  wings and a tail. The first Balrog was the chief general of the Dark Lord , but as generations have passed not all are as warlike as their ancestors. They are huge and built like bull trolls, often standing close to 12 feet tall and weighing 600 pounds or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talonlike claws with four fingers and a thumb on each hand.

Born Warriors

The Balrogs were created for the great wars against the elves and as such are fearsome warriors on the field of battle skilled in many types of weapon. The Balrogs also often carry flaming whips that are a traditional weapon of old.

Generals of the Dark Lord

The first Balrogs were the supreme commanders of the Dark Lord, leading legions of Orcs in great battles against the forces of good.

A New World Order

Long past are the days where the Balrogs fought in wars and battles. Nowadays  they aren't all evil either, some even serve mortal kings for gold from their coffers.
