Homebrew Aranaea Species Details

Aranaea are vassals for the Goddess Lolth. They drive on the hunt and sowing chaos wherever they may be. Little is known of them other than their burrows deep in the Underdark and Network high above treetops in the dense forests and high mountains. They are allies to the Drow. Vicious arachnids created from chaos and lost to the known. 

 

Arachnid Body

Though humainoid, Aranaea have arachnid like appearance. They have four to eight lidless black or red eyes that wrap around the eyeline to the temple of their heads that do not allow for sleep. Their face aside from the eyes is rather human like save for the absence of a nose. They sport two pincer like large fangs that extends downward from a slit in their mouth. Aranaea skin can range from blue to black depending on their locale and type. At times even shaded with several colors at once. Their bodies are slender yet tall. Their arms long and spindly with hairs upon which they use to smell. Upon, their front a hard carapace rests to protect their soft chest beneath.

Aranaea tend to wear to long sleeved clothing to hide their arms, headbands to hide their eyes or a mask to simply hide their facial features. They have a fearsome appearance that is not helped by their penchant to cause pandemonium wherever they mayhap appear.

 

Creatures of Bedlam

Created from wild chaotic energy acting on Arachnids, Aranaea have a tendency to be tricksters yet masters at hunting. They go through life mostly within their Networks however when they journey about they tend to sow mayhem. Aranaea are wildly intelligent however their physical prowess tends to overtake that. Lolth granted them many things when she created them through chaotic energy. That intelligence leads to them having rather interesting tricks played upon their victims.

Patient Hunters

Superb hunters and devout followers to her they are a danger to anything they view as enemy. Such superb hunters that they can hunt for days without rest. With a restless body Aranaea do not sleep. Their eyes do not allow it. Instead, they can arbitrarily rest their bodies by shutting down function to enter a trance like state that does not affect their ability to see, hear, smell or feel the changes around them. As they hunt for their food they are very carnivorous and will eat the flesh of anything.

 

 

Aranaea Traits

Aranaea share certain traits with Arachnids having spawned from the type of animal.

Temperate Fragility

As a creature with basis from Arachnids you have a weakness to extreme temperatures. When exposed to extreme heat or extreme colds you must succeed in a Constitution saving throw of 13 or be weakened until temperature can be regulated. You will also have disadvantage against attacks made with cold/fire spells.

Cling Sense

You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed. In addition, at 2nd level, you can move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings, while leaving your hands free. They can effortless walk across webbed surfaces without it being considered difficult terrain.

Keen Arachnid Sense

You as an Aranaea are near-sighted in the daylight. However, due to your habitat you have developed a creative way to see the world around you. You hair along their body they use to smell and sense your surroundings. You sight has developed to allow you to see or sense in even the brightest or darkest of places.

Molting Autotomy

Due to your hydraulic system from your Arachnid Ancestry you can heal from almost any damage. You can even regenerate lost limbs and organs.

Ability Score Increase

Your strength/dexterity increases and your constitution/intelligence increases depending on your gender.
