Homebrew Deepspawn Species Details

The recently freed warrior forms of a great hivemind, created by a Fleshwarper that nearly brought the world to ruin. With the Hivemind shattered, the lesser forms reverted to animalistic behaviour, and the greater forms had their minds shattered as their links of control were destroyed. Now lost in a world they were created to destroy, with no links or guidance to others, largely hated and feared by those peoples that survived the Hivemind War. Their symbiotic living weapons, armour, and equipment are beginning to be used and adopted by some individuals from the common races.

Six limbed (four arms and two legs, all ending in claws), a chitinous hide, and gnashing teeth, the Deepspawn have a horrific and predatory appearance. They are creatures from the blackest of nightmares, thought of as unstoppable killing machines with pulsing ichor for blood, needle-sharp teeth and darkly gleaming eyes that reveal a true intelligence at work. A Deepspawn War-form stands well above height of a man, its carapace protected by a thick chitin. One might expect such a creature to be slow in its actions, but a War-form is lithe, with reactions as swift as a whip

Deepspawn Traits

Lorum ipsum?

Chitin Carapace

Deepspawn War-Forms were made purely for war. Even without the symbiotic armours that cover most, their thick chitin provides protection. When they aren't wearing armor, their base AC is 12 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your chitin carapace to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your chitin carapace.

Ability Score Increase

A Deepspawn War-Form recieves +1 Strength, +1 Dexterity, and +1 Constitution

Rending Claws, Ripping Maw

A Deepspawn War-form is naturally equipped with fearsome claws and needle-like fangs. They have a fanged maw that may be used to make unarmed strikes. When they hit, it deals 1d6 + their strength modifier piercing damage instead of bludgeoning damage. They also have sharp claws which may be used to make unarmed strikes, dealing 1d6 + their strength modifier slashing damage instead of bludgeoning damage.

Predatory Instincts

As a bonus action, a Deepspawn may make an additional attack with their claws or fanged maw. They may do this a number of times equal to their proficiency bonus, and regain all expended uses on a long rest.
