Homebrew Aarif Species Details

The Aarif are a new race that has appeared within the last century, crashing into the planet via unknown technology, fleeing from their world that was said to be destroyed due to the technology they created. Since then, they have adopted a deep belief in acquiring and sharing knowledge, but never mistreating what they do with it, or ruining the world around them with it. They are creatures that deeply value serenity, peace, & knowledge. 

Appearance

Aarif appear humanoid, with violet skin & 6 limbs; 4 arms & 2 legs. They have long pointed ears that extend horizontally instead of vertically. Their foreheads have ridges that are actually rows of small muscled membranes protecting their skulls, as well eyes that appear grey & crystalline. Their pupils, instead of being a single dot in the middle of their eye are instead intersecting lines along the crystalline, grey texture that is their eye color. They also have markings that extend from their eyelids down to their chins. Their hands and feet have 4 fingers. They are skinny creatures, appearing almost gaunt, but that is actually a good sign of a healthy body among their race. They do not grow hair of ant kind, and in place of stylized hair instead like placing rare metals in their skin attached to the bone underneath. Some even wear intricate helmets as both a sign of fashion and protection of their head. Males have a small pointed nub in the middle of their chest, and Females have breasts like most humanoids. Female eyes also glow a soft blue color when they are pregnant. Both sexes sport a large cranium.

Society

The Aarif people have nearly forgotten their entire history & previous culture, as they were stranded aboard a large ship that fled their original planet as it was dying for almost 400 years. Their ancestors barely managed to escape their planet as it was destroyed by the technology they created. The resulting destruction caused their ship to become damaged, and flung through the universe, eventually crashing into the world they live on now. The arduous journey through the stars and dangerous crash left a scar upon their race, killing a majority of them with only a small amount of them surviving. Due to this, they value peace, prosperity, and knowledge above all else. They are very strict when it comes to how they acquire and use knowledge, using it for personal growth and the greater good of society as a whole. An Aarif that is discovered to be using knowledge or technology selfishly against the Aarif can be punished severely by the leaders of the Aarif, known as The Aarifa, up to and including exile or the severing of the second set of arms if the crime is severe enough, but never execution. They see it as an abhorrent punishment as it ends that individuals contribution to society prematurely. The Aarif do not like violence, but will use it if they need to. They tend to not use melee weapons, as it more dangerous for them, and instead rely upon their psychic abilities and newly learned magic to defend themselves. Most of the time, however they will seek a more peaceful solution to their conflict. They have a second set of arms they consider sacred that they use only for using their psychic abilities.

The Aarif have used what leftover technology was available from their crashed ship to create a small city that they call home. They have named it Aariketh.

The Aarif names all usually start with an A, unless exiled. Exiled members start their names with an X.

Age

Aarif mature much slower than humans, reaching maturity at about 50 years old, and living to around 500 years old.

Speed

Aarif have a base walking speed of 15 feet. They walk very slow, preserving a lot of their energy for their brain.

Size

Aarif usually reach heights near 5 and a half feet tall, and usually weigh about 100 - 120 lbs. They are medium in size

Alignment

Aarif lean heavily towards neutral good alignment, caring deeply about promises & the people they associate with.

Telepathy

Aarif have telepathy out to 30 feet & can speak to up to 4 creatures at a time. Any creature that can understand a language can understand them.

Perfect Psionics

Aarif have perfected psionic abilities to an extent that their own biology has become altered. You can use a Bonus Action to attempt to restrain an enemy you can see within 30 feet of you by throwing out your outstretched hand and holding your enemy in the air with psychic energy. The enemy must make a Intelligence saving throw to avoid being grappled. On failure the enemy is considered restrained. For success, the enemy is not restrained. The enemy may make a saving throw at the beginning of each of their turns. You may still cast spells when an enemy is restrained by you with this ability.

Additionally, you have resistance to psychic damage and immunity against charming effects/spells. You also have innate telekinesis that can be used to carry, push, pull, or lift an object up to 50 lbs at will within 30 feet.

Vulnerable Body

Aarif have bodies that aren't evolved to handle blows from bludgeoning weapons. You have vulnerability to bludgeoning damage.

Language

You can speak, read, and write common & one other language of your choice
