Homebrew DIRE WOLFKIN Species Details

W olfkin are anthropomorphic wolves that have the ability to stand and walk on two legs, speak telepathically, wear armor, and wield weapons. Their furs come in many colors like brown, black, or grey and some have mixed colors. Others may have rare colors like red or white. Males tend to be over 6ft. tall while females tend to be over 5ft. tall. Most wolfkin prefer not to wear armor or clothing at all. When they do wear armor they prefer leather or hide armor but some wear plate mail and heavier armors. Wolfkin also only use helmets that still allow them to bite and rarely wear armor on their paws or hands. Their size, build, and color ranges depending on climate just like ordinary wolves in any given region but their upper bodies have been compared to those of half elves as far as muscle tone. Many individuals grow the fur along the back of their heads and necks considerably longer than the rest of their fur. They often braid this longer hair and decorate it with feathers or trinkets. History No one really knows how wolfkin gained the ability to stand and walk on two legs, communicate telepathically, and use items and weapons. Some say it was the work of a god and others say it was caused by magic. The wolfkin themselves don't know how they are able to do all these things. Wolfkin still behave like regular wolves for the most part but are more civilized. Some wolfkin either stay in the woods with their own kind or make villages and coexist with other species. Wolfkin are very skilled hunters and warriors, some are skilled magic users. Wolfkin are feared by humans and orcs; both races have tried to eradicate or enslave them. Most nonhumans don't fear them as some have helped them through struggles. However bear-like races and wolfkin hate each, the most likely reason is that it's simply in their nature. It is rare to see a wolfkin and bear-like race get along or fight together. There have been many wars between them usually resulting in wolfkin victories due to their superior ability to use pack tactics. Wolfkin aren't always together though, many wolfkin packs have fought each other over land or resources. People try to stay out of pack territory to avoid trouble. Most of the time people will only see a wolfkin as a mercenary.
