Homebrew Chazarr Species Details

Looking around the jagged spires of the coming road, a tall figure with barely hidden monstrous features casually makes their way towards their intended destination, their hand clutching the hilt of a mace at their side. On the wind, they sense something is off. The quiet is deafening. With this realization, a wicked grin grows across their face. They've been wanting a good fight for days, and with the first arrow loosed, they've found their entertainment for the evening.

Natural-born Warriors

Chazarr don't live easy lives, being descended from demons. They rarely fit in and are often confused with their Abyssal ancestors. Thankfully, they're generally strong enough to send most would be demon hunters packing.

Despite their monstrous appearance, Chazarr aren't brainless brutes. Their traveling troupes more often resemble military camps than mere nomads. They take pride in their efficiency and cohesion. However, this commonly leads to having negative consequences when mistaken as a threat.

Though Chazarr try to distance themselves from their evil lineage, they share a common love of battle. Though generally they more admire the skill and tactics involved than the gore and bloodshed. Even still they're not mutually exclusive. They won't hesitate to clear an area of Orcs and Goblins in return for any local bounty or fealty from surrounding villages. They live for the hunt.

A Mixed Bag

Chazarr may travel in troupes, but they aren't all cut from the same cloth. Most are naturally born from two Chazarr parents, or from one Chazarr and the other common, but not all. Like their Tiefling cousins, a Chazarr can be born of a union between Fiend and mortal, through a pact of some kind, or even a recessive trait from two parents of common race.

Because of this, most tribes not only have a wide variety in appearance, but culture and experience as well. They may have those of completely different cultures that see the world in different ways. Different races that decided to leave with their Chazarr lover. They have little care for origin in terms of ability and worth as "we're all damned in the god's eyes". Those who lead are generally the oldest and most experienced. If they cannot decide this way, it may be the most educated that gets to lead. If all else fails, might makes right is the last resort.

Extraplanar Issues

Most Chazarr have a... complex relationship with the gods. Due to their inherent Abyssal nature, they are often looked down on by the Clergy at best and actively hunted at worst. This has lead to a bit of a faithless nature among Chazarr troupes and is commonly held by most regardless of affiliation.

This doesn't stop at the Celestial planes however, nor is it the most deeply held belief. What most Chazarr can't stand above all else are Demons. Most of what makes life difficult for Chazarr can be attributed to their dark heritage and they almost all feel some level of animosity towards the fiends. Of course there are exceptions in those who are truly evil and actually embrace the fear and hate the world throws at them as fuel for when they try to burn it down.

Needless to say, most Chazarr have something to say about the subject of Fiends and Celestials regardless of their specific stance. The subject of magic is also an interesting debate as Chazarr rarely delve into spell craft other than items or minor magics for convenience. Most see it as a tool for fixing problems or a dangerous weapon to be wielded. If there is a mage within a troupe of Chazarr, they would likely be Arcane or Druidic in nature as well as live on the outskirts of camp for other's safety.

Regardless of their origin or stance on the strange worlds they walk, the Chazarr remain a strong, proud race of warriors, hunters, and crafters that can withstand what the world has in store for them.

Chazarr Names

Most Chazarr have two names, given and family as most races do. They also commonly hyphenate their family name with their troupe name. This is generally used when outside of the troupe to give respect to their community.

Given and family names vary wildly within troupes due to their nomadic nature as well as the variety of people who join them. Some prefer human names in order to come of as more normal while some love the more exotic names of strange and different cultures. Those who came from other cultures may decide to keep their name as a form of respect while others may throw it away to remake themselves within their new troupe.

Though, some who have studied their heritage and decided to embrace their origins instead of shunning it may go for an Abyssal name and make it their own. These names have greater meaning to other Chazarr and may elicit negative responses from those who have disdain for Demons.

Chazarr generally give their full name, including their troupe, upon first meeting a new person but quickly drop formalities and just go by given name to not stir up confusion.
