Homebrew Conduit Species Details

Many know of the warforged, a race of sentient automatons that were used for endless combat. Well, as is the nature of magic, many sought to improve what was previously considered a flawless design. Pushing ever towards "true sentience," conduits need to sleep, and must eat to fuel their elemental reactors. They are, after all, made of a special alloy known as black iron, which is then suffused with elemental energy. Conduits come in all shapes and sizes, and bear the heads of various animals and beasts, but always the bodies of human beings.

It is not known exactly what happened to many of their mastersk, but conduits are quite often seen on their lonesome, forgotten machines of a bygone era. It is no matter, though, as they can still make their mark on the world with their combat prowess and striking visuals.

Conduit Traits

While flames and iron may hold my body together, you hold my spirit together, my love. It is a lonely existence when I am without your touch, for no matter how warm my core may be, I am warmest when I am with you... —Anonymous conduit love letter

Age

Conduits were created long ago, and therefore their physical age is estimated to be many centuries old. It doesn't matter, though, as they are immortal in terms of biological aging. You are immune to magical aging effects.

Alignment

Conduits tend toward the alignment of their creator, though they will often lean towards neutrality.

Conduit Core

Choose an element from acid, cold, fire, or lightning. You bear a core comprised of that element, which exists at the center of your body. You gain features that change depending on the core you bear.

Conduit Fortitude

Your elemental nature is represented by the following benefits:

  • You have resistance to the damage type of the your core.
  • You don’t need to drink or breathe, but you must still eat.
  • You are immune to disease.

Emit Element

As an action you can emit your core's element in a 10-foot radius from yourself. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier). On a failed save, a creature takes 2d6 damage of your core's type. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage.

The damage of this ability increase to 3d6 at 5th level, 4d6 at 11th, and 5d6 at 17th level. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you must finish a long rest before doing so again.

Lightvision

You emit bright light in a 15-foot cone and dim light for an additional 15 feet wherever you look. You choose to turn this light off or on (no action required).

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
