Homebrew Asinino Species Details

The Asinino are a race of humanoid creatures touched by the fey, easily recognizable due to their donkey heads. Legend says that they were created when a powerful wizard opened a portal to the Feywild, while experimenting with nested portals to other dimensions as a way of achieving immortality. The spill of magic energy from the Feywild altered forever the humans that lived in a nearby farming town, giving them donkey heads.

The first Asinino discovered that their curse was also a blessing. They became smarter, more charismatic, and their connection to the fey made them immune to being charmed, more resistant to poison. Magic became innate to them, and soon some of them discovered they could even cast spells without any training. They quickly spreaded around the continent. Many become successful merchants due to their charisma; others learned to use their innate magical connection after studying with wizards, becoming powerful wizards themselves.

Asinino reach adulthood at 20 years, and live up to 150 years. Most are Lawful Good, and they are rarely evil.

Thanks to your connection to the Feywild, you have advantage on saving throws against being charmed and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Posion Resilience

Thanks to your sturdy and reliable body, you have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance against poison damage.

Innate Magic

You know the Prestidigitation cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Detect Magic spell once per day. When you reach 5th level, you can also cast the Detect Thoughts spell once per day. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Ability Score Increase

You get a +2 bonus to intelligence, and +1 to charisma.

Asinino have their own language, which you speak. It's close to Minotaur, which you can understand. You also speak Common and a language of your choice that you picked up in your travels.
