Homebrew Demi-Gorgon Species Details

Inspired by the Gorgon Races by architections and ChildOfAvalon, but with somewhat softened flavour and different abilities. Some of the excellently written flavour text has been taken and adapted from their homebrew Gorgon races.

The Demi-Gorgon

The first Gorgons were created by the gods, often from humans who had been wronged in some way, whose fury caused them to devote themselves to vengeance.

Later, powerful magicians and divine practitioners would revive the practice, creating the first Demi-Gorgons, from those whose past compels them to root out injustice and corruption wherever it takes root, sometimes mercilessly.

Exploration and Adventure

Newly created Demi-Gorgons will often leave the comfort of their homes to seek out adventure. They are often motivated to seek out and destroy or undermine injustices perpetrated upon the innocent.

A Demi-Gorgon is a hard friend to make, but if you should find yourself in the good graces of one, you will find yourself a stalwart companion that will rip apart those who would wish you ill. Though they are sometimes painted as monsters, they're almost always good and positive individuals, though many become hard and cynical after a few lifetimes of watching mortals undermine and betray each other.

Appearance

More often than not, Demi-Gorgons are incredibly striking, as if a glamour has been placed upon them. They have a head of snakes or tendril-like appendages, though the type varies greatly from individual to individual. Their skin ranges from all human tones, and includes shades of green, blue, and grey.

Demi-Gorgon Names

Demi-Gorgon names vary from culture to culture, though they often choose new names from those they had before their transformation.

Female Gorgon Names. Risea, Althaia, Agapia, Achradina, Corythia, Isadora

Male Gorgon Names. Thereas, Lethos, Alpheos, Eurytos, Aristaeus, Sostratos

Demi-Gorgon Traits

Your Demi-Gorgon character has a variety of natural abilities, as a result of their magical transformation.

Creature Type

You are a Humanoid.

Ability Score Increase

When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one of those scores by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy.

Languages

Your character can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character.

Size

Demi-Gorgons range from under 4 feet to over 8 feet tall and have all sorts of builds, depending on their race before their transformation. Your size is Medium or Small, and you choose which when you select this race.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.

Natural Allure

You have proficiency in the Persuasion skill.

Poison Resilience

You have advantage on saving throws you make to avoid or end the poisoned condition on yourself. You also have resistance to poison damage.

Petrifying Glare

As a reaction, when a creature within 30 feet of you that you can see, and that can see you, uses their movement or attempts to make an attack, you can force it to make a Constitution saving throw. If the creature fails, they are stunned until the beginning of their next turn.

The DC of this save equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
