Homebrew Divern Species Details

The Divern is a long, lanky and boney creature with arms that extend almost it's entire body length. It has odd pick-axe shaped hands that are made for digging. They live in large caves that they build in swamps and marshes and they exist in groups of 40-90. They radiate negative energy and absorb positive energy. When the Hauntings are well fed, they will produce more negative energy in their cave system; which will cause dark purple crystals to glow. Once they are large enough, the chief or elder will break the crystal and a divern is born. They are the spirits of animals who died of natural causes who have chosen to live again with their family, once they are born they get to resume the shape of the animal they died in for however long they want. They gain this as soon as they are born, and can wildshape into that one animal. They hunt in packs of 15-60 and these packs are called hauntings. A haunting of divern will often have a chief with them and many normal members of the haunting, they will go close to a settlement of some sort an attempt to lure them into a trap. You must succeed on a wisdom saving throw to not be tempted by the lure. They lure humanoids by pretending to be animals. Often they'll use telepathy to communicate when in animal form. They are not aggressive in any way, and do not actually kill their pray. They hunt and trap the humanoid and then the chief uses a spell to put the said person into an anaesthetic sleep. The pack will drain this person of hp until they are at 1HP. The person will wake up with no memory of this (If they fail their intelligence check). The divern have no enemies execpt the undead as they believe the dead should stay dead unless they wish to serve a noble cause.
