Homebrew Aebrea Species Details
For most of recorded history, humans have seemingly to have been able to adapt to any environment that they might find themselves in. The Aebrea are an example of this fortitude. They call the lands of Idon home. Idon is a land eternally frozen where the sun shines but no warmth is felt. This constant exposure to the harsh cold has caused the Aebrea to adapt to their environment.
A Cold Truth
With their penchant for conquest, Aebrea are less physically diverse than other human races. A typical Aebrean stands at around 6'5" and weighs around 265 lbs with females being smaller than their male counterparts on average. This isn't to say that female Aebrea are weak. In fact, most female Aebrea still stand over 6' and weigh around 200 lbs. Aebrea sport straight blonde hair and pale skin; males sport thick facial hair that they have since birth. If you ever see a male Aebrea without facial hair, then it is a sure bet that he was banished from his tribe. Aebrea typically live around 150 years.
Practice Makes Perfect
The Aebrea are known for their sailing and ship building prowess. Many kingdoms hire Aebrean craftsman to build the ships for their fleets. Living most of their lives on frozen rivers and lakes, the Aebrea had to find a way to sail through the ice to find food and travel. This led to the invention of the first metal ships. They used magic to propel the ships forward, but following the Shattering, the magic that enabled such naval supremacy was lost. The other thing that the Aebrea are known for is their brute strength. The Aebrean fighting pits are world famous. Anyone who wants to prove their strength can challenge an Aebrean fight in the fighting pits. Most fighters lose, but the few who do manage to win are crowned honorary Aebrea and are placed into an tribe.
A Greater Cause
Aebrean who seek adventure and fame do so for the glory of their tribe and family. Any Aebrean that is found to be abandoning the tribe for riches and fame is disowned and banished from their tribe. It is not uncommon to see an Aebrean adventurer put themselves in between danger and their fellow adventurer. In Aebrean culture, it is considered disgraceful to allow someone of non-Aebrean descent to die in their place.
