Homebrew Centaur of the Red Steppes Species Details

From the waist up, the centaurs of the Red Steppes resemble humans, displaying all the human varieties of skin tone. From the waist down, they have the bodies of horses. All of their horses halves are uniquely and beautifully colored. You won't find a centaur of the Steppes with a plain hide. They are a hardy race of people, who protect their lands fiercely. As a centaur from the Steppes you retain that protective nature and love for the lands you call home.

Creating Your Character

Ability Score Increases

When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy. The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase. You can follow those suggestions or ignore them, but you can’t raise any of your scores above 20.

 Age

Centaurs mature and age at about the same rate as humans.

Height and Weight

Centaurs stand between 6 and 7 feet tall, with their equine bodies reaching about 4 feet at the withers. If you wish to determine how much you weigh, they typically range betwee 800 - 1500 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Blood Letting

The Centaurs of The Red Steppes feel an overwhelming compulsion to spill blood upon the land.

Centaur Names

Centaurs’ given names are passed down through family lines. The name bestowed on a new foal is typically the name of the most recently deceased family member of the same gender, keeping alive the memory — and, the centaurs believe, some shard of the spirit — of the departed. Centaurs don’t use family names, but they wear symbols that represent their family membership. These symbols might include graphical representations of plants or animals, printed mottoes, braids and beads worn in the hair and tail, or even specific patterns of woven fabric.

Ability Score Increase

When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy. The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase. You can follow those suggestions or ignore them, but you can’t raise any of your scores above 20.

Language

You can speak, read, and write Common and one language of your choice

Charge

If you move at least 30 feet straight toward a target and then hit it with a melee weapon attack on the same turn, you can immediately follow that attack with a bonus action, making one attack against the target with your hooves.

Equine Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push or drag.

In addition, any climb that requires hands and feet is especially difficult for you because of your equine legs. When you make such a climb, each foot of movement costs you 4 extra feet instead of the normal 1 extra foot.

Hooves

You have hooves that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Bloodletting

The Centaurs of the Red Steppes were cursed centuries ago. No one alive knows when or why this happened, nor does anyone know that the race is a cursed . It has cut them off from the magic of their ancestors and gives them the overwhelming desire to spill blood upon the land.

If blood has been spilled by your hand of an enemy, ally, or yourself you can add 1d4 necrotic damage to a damage roll of your choice. You may use this ability once per day.

Scarification

The centaurs of the Steppes ritualistically scar themselves with each kill they make. Due to this you gain proficiency in Intimidation.
